    Bergara has a new rimfire.

Good Lord! I've just finished reading through this string and realized toward the end how many people were condemning Bergara for all sorts of vile things when they hadn't even seen the gun because it was not even on the market yet. Oh well, stranger things have happened. Through it all...

    need some info on actions

Re: need some info on actions McMillan will cut inlets for them. Here's my opinion: Upside- Very strong and stiff. Benchresters used to love them. Great for short, light rifles. It's basically a repeater of the XP-100 action. The forerunner of the Model 7. Super accurate action. Did I...

    Trigger for your bolt gun

Re: Trigger for your bolt gun I use some Timney's but don't really care for the wide shoe. I use a LOT of Shilen triggers. They're great.

Question about inconsistency with new 700?

Re: Question about inconsistency with new 700? Always check the magazine box for clearance when you assemble the rifle. With a BDL type bottom metal, the mag box should float up and down about 1/16". Sometimes the stock is just not deep enough and the box needs to be filed a little shorter...

    modle 700 trigger problem

Re: modle 700 trigger problem The 700 factory trigger assembly has a cheaply made trigger that is not suitable for sear contact. So, in order to have a hardened trigger to sear contact there is a tool steel strap, so to speak, that wraps around the front of the trigger. This is what supports...

Gunsmithing Savage barrel nut with no recesses, how to remove?

Re: Savage barrel nut with no recesses, how to remove? Couldn't get ours off with a strap wrench because the shoulder is too narrow. But it came with a divot already on the bottom. I made an aluminum clamp on a handle with a little stud that engaged the divot. Worked like a champ.

    Gunsmithing Good South Carolina Gunsmith?

Re: Good South Carolina Gunsmith? Once the threads are trued to the bolt runway they are oversized and the factory barrel will need to be replaced. Everything else can be done and the barrel set back a turn to rechamber.

    Gunsmithing Custom Mauser barrel?

Re: Custom Mauser barrel? Beef Supreme - thanks for your comment on Mausers. I guess I could have mentioned that the Mauser has been my hands-down favorite hunting action since I started working on them at the Colorado School of Trades in 1977. I have put together many really good guns on...

    Gunsmithing Custom Mauser barrel?

Re: Custom Mauser barrel? I agree with the Oranges to Oranges comment. I've used dozens of each. Both are far better than a Mauser can utilize. Customer service is outstanding from both. Very few shooters could demonstrate an advantage between one of these and a "better" barrel. Go for it...

Gunsmithing Correcting Headspace on a Rem 700

Re: Correcting Headspace on a Rem 700 If you grind the recoil lug your barrel will screw in a little more, the lettering will be in a very different locatin and the bolt nose may bottom out in the barrel counterbore. Look before you leap. I'm not saying that this is not a good option, just...
