    Vintage sniper match photos

Why did you do this... you have just made me terribly discontent with my M40-ish build... now I am wanting a Springfield... no chance of ever owning a Garand... so maybe I will splurge on a 1903.

A question for all you manly men target shooting an M40

M40_A1, I was just thinking that with extra weight in the A1 spec... the recoil must be reduced to nearly nothing... one day I will build an M40A1 spec build...

A question for all you manly men target shooting an M40

Rainier42, I don't really have an answer either... I find my M40 Build very comfortable to shoot... and I am shooting a pretty hefty load - 43.6gn of AR2208 behind a Nosler 175gn CC which is clocking about 2710fps over the chrony... I put 50 rounds down range on Saturday will no ill effect... I...

    Vietnam M70 thread

Do you have any more information on these post-64's as this is the first I have heard of a post-64 being used in Vietnam... Were they chambered for .30 Cal(.30-06) or 7.62x51... what scope was used... etc... I know there was a lot of improvising... any more details would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to everyone for the advice... I found this quote in another thread... Can someone school me on USO spotters? ... by Jason Kyle of USO... Our field observation scope was designed for tough rugged conditions. It was made with Marines in mind, to be taken out beaten up and have eye...

US Optics 15-40x Spotter... Opinions and Experience Please...

Good day, I have spent the past few hours searching this forum and the internet for user experience and opinion on the US Optics 15-40x spotter. Everyone seems to agree that the scope is very well made... the phrase 'hammer nails' comes up consistently... the price is right... that US Optics...

    Painted M40's

Marty, Many thanks! That is very interesting... the scope in post #7 with the photo of the camo'ed M40 is definitely a green scope... looking not unlike the color of the original green Redfield's you find today... but the scope on Chuck's rifle is a different color... I agree that it is a...

    Painted M40's

@et al, I am correct in saying that the scope on Chuck's rifle in the photo is a 2nd generation scope in black... in all the photos that I can find... the scope does not have the characteristic green hue of the 1st generation... thanks!

    Hi-lux m40 scope

I am process of building 2 M-40-ish rifles... not perfect clones or replicas... rifles that will be shooters and used regularly... a .223 and .308... both on early actions... and I would be happy to pay $500 to $600 for a good quality new scope patterned on the Redfield... preferably USA made or...

    Hi-lux m40 scope

Why could they not get it right? There is so much documentation, photos, and etc available... and they really messed it up... the turrets are all wrong... the scope looks the a patch work of different greens... and the reticle is incorrect... they go to all that effort... and completely miss the...

    M40 Barrel Contour

The biggest issue I have seen is that the barrel is moved too far forward when cut and threaded... the Remington 700 Varmint drops quickly from the 1.25" at the recoil lug through a bell curve to a smaller diameter... most smiths or barrel contours leave a much longer flat in front of the recoil...

My vintage Redfield 3-9 Accu-Range scope rebuild

Rainier, Do you when the 2nd generation Accu-Range Redfield scopes were fielded by the USMC... there is reference to the 2nd-gen scopes in 1968 literature... but were the scopes actually on rifles in the field? Very nice work... I am hoping to find a Accu-Range... 1st or 2nd generation... for...

    Second Redfield Accu-Range scope rebuild

@Rainier42, Is Connor able to change the reticle to the correct M40 reticle... many of these scopes are available with a duplex... with or without the second set of ranging stadia and the tombstone... but not many with the fine crosshair and Accu-range... thanks for sharing the photos... I am...

    M40 Barrel Contour

I just located a C-series Remington 700 BDL Varmint... C-series would make it a late-80's manufacture... all original... for a good price... was considering getting it just to get the barrel profile... does anyone know if Remington changed the Varmint barrel contour significantly between the...

    M40 Barrel Contour

Has anyone been able to get these specs... being in Australia... I will need to get a local barrel-maker to contour a barrel for me and I would like to have specs to hand to them to ensure the least amount of aggravation for both of us... thanks!
