Gunsmithing Stubborn trigger adjustment screw

I just bought a T/C Venture yesterday which has a trigger adjustment screw located on the bottom of the bolt track. It adjusts with a tiny allen wrench, and it is a bit hard to get at because of the confining space. Problem is the screw is so tight it won't budge, neither clockwise nor...

    Bullet weight and barrel length

Given rifles of the same caliber, is there any theoretical GENERAL idea that a shorter barrel (say 18") does better with a heavier bullet or lighter bullet? Or that a long barrel (say 26" or 29" etc.) does better with a heavier or lighter bullet? Just for an example: A 30-06 rifle can have...

For a Savage 111 accutrigger, accustock, in 30-06. Ranges will be around 300 meters. Which one would you advise? 1. Weaver Classic K-series fixed 6x 38mm Dual-X reticle 2. Burris Fullfield II 2-7x 35mm Ballistic Plex reticle 3. Redfield Revolution 2-7x 33mm 4 Plex reticle These...

Long barrel - slower powder, short barrel - faster powder?

Take the Mosin-Nagant 91/30 which has a 29 inch barrel, and the Mosin-Nagant 44 which has a 19 inch barrel. That is a substantial difference. Would it not make sense to use a slow powder like Reloader 19 or 22 or 4350 etc in the long barrel, and a faster powder like H4895 in shorter barrels...

I don't have much hope for my Bruno's order.

I ordered some bullets from Bruno's back in March. Their website said they were in stock so I jumped on them (.308 Sierras in 180 grain). Bruno's has now added a sentence to their home page saying that though an item may be in stock when you place your order, it may NOT be in stock when...

Making the most of the 30-06 versus .308 Win

The Speer Manual states that the .308 Win has the advantage over the 30-06 with lighter bullets (150 grain and less) because of its compact case. It says that bullets above 165 grain are better served by a 30-06 because of the larger case capacity of the 30-06 to "hold a lot of slow burning...

New brass versus used brass chronograph difference

I was chonographing a new load yesterday, and had some cases that had been reloaded several times, and some new cases. The new cases were 50-60 fps <span style="text-decoration...

    Realistic max range for a 2.5x 1903/A4?

Considering the low power 2.5X scope on the Springfield 1903/A4 sniper from WWII, what would you consider a maximum REALISTIC range for this weapon? On mine at 300 yards, the crosshairs are close to blocking out (covering up) a 6" diameter plate completely.

    Match primers versus regular primers

I thought I'd try a brick of Federal Match large rifle primers to try to tighten up my groups. I have been using Winchester and Federal regular primers for many years. Have match grade primers made a difference for you?
