Re: Air rifle for practice I use a scoped Gamo for practice before hunting in Africa. It is excellent for developing techniques for shooting off sticks.
Re: Mauser Modelo Argentino 1909 The 1909 is great for a custom rifle. That being said, there are reports that some of the actions are soft and may exhibit lug setback. Some gunsmiths routinely have them re-heat treated before rebarreling. Best to have it checked out before proceeding.
Re: 338 Win Mag or 375 Ruger? .375H&H or 9.3x62 would do nicely for your needs. Both are legal for dangerous game and are more than adequate for buffalo, especially with premium bullets like the TSX or A Frame
Re: Am I crazy? 1-4 power on a meat-gun I really like the Trijicon Accupoint 1.25x4 with the triangle reticle on my 375 H&H. I have made shots from 20-350 yards with it. The reticle is amazing. I also have a 1x6 Swarovski on another 375. It is a great scope, but I really prefer the light...
Re: Baby on the way whats a good starter 22? I went the opposite route for my son. I got him a Mannlicher stocked Anschutz 64 with a Leupold 3x9 EFR before he was 6 months old. He can learn on a cheaper .22 or pellet rifle, but I wanted his first rifle to be top shelf.
Re: Controlling Safe Humidity and Rust I have never had a problem with the goldenrod. I have one in each of my safes. 1 is in my laundry room and 1 in the basement, both in the humid SE. I placed a layer of roofing tar paper under the safes before bolting them down.
Re: Gun Safe I bought a bigger liberty than I thought I needed. Ended up buying another liberty. Don't expect to fit 30 scoped rifles in a safe rated for 30 long guns.
Re: NEED ADVISE!! Cell Phone Rant It all depends on your area. I work for a major telecom company; our local coverage is so poor that the company buys cell service from their largest competitor. I understand your comm frustrations during hurricane recovery. I was in Poplarville, MS for about...
Re: Machete of choice? I have the Woodman's pal too. It works great, but is expensive. You have to be careful with it too, easy to get close to the body.
Re: Considering a Win M70 for hunting, good stuff?? Many people do not like the push feed Winchesters. I would not hesitate to buy one if the price was right. I have several pre-64 and a few post 64 70s with the controlled feed action. They, and commercial Mausers, are my favorite hunting...
Re: All purpose hunting rifle/round I suggested the 06 and 7 mag for general use, but don't overlook somewhat larger cartridges. I have several 06s, 270s, etc, but rarely use them. I have used a pre-64 Model 70 in .338 Win Mag and an old FN Mauser in .375 H&H for everything for the past 5...
Re: Another set of Gene Ingram on the way. Those pins are awesome. I have a few and will try to get pics up. My first is a user with giraffe bone scales. The other is a GWB with fossilized mammoth scales. It's a beauty, but I was somewhat disappointed. I ordered mosiac pins, but received...
Re: .416 Ammo Any special reason for using the TBBCs over the TSX for Buff? The 350 TSX is supposed to be very effective in the Rem Mag. I use the TSX for everything, but would use the A Frame if the TSX did not shoot in my rifles. You may want to also consider some solids for follow ups.
Re: All purpose hunting rifle/round Model 70 or 700 in 30-06 with 168TSX or7mm RemMag with premium 140s or 160s will serve your needs well. Throw on a 3x9x40 Zeiss Conquest in Talley lightweights and go kill stuff.
