Hello everyone. I am loading for a 6mm Creedmoor with H4350/108 ELD. I found necked down and turned Norma and Lapua brass to produce poor accuracy at every charge weight and seating depth. Hornady 6mm brass shot excellent without any prep at all but case life is terrible thus, the desire to...
Yes, the collet was set up correctly. There are a few forum discussions about extremely difficult to pull bullets, none of them discuss a definitive cause. This was not the only problem because accuracy only improves slightly when I annealed the cases. Why accuracy would go from .33 to 2.5...
I agree. I annealed the cases and accuracy didn't improve. Now I am on the the accuracy matter after concluding it was not the bullet/case junction, although I still find that strange. The benchrest shooter explained how a carbon ring can develop at the end of the throat, the portion of the...
OP again. Annealing the cases didnt help with accuracy today. Who knows why they were so hard to pull but it doesnt matter anymore. One of the Benchrest shooters at the range today said to clean the barrel and remove any possibility of a carbon ring. Lets see if that helps.
. That is correct sir. These casings were on their third firing. The sequence went from 6.5 once fired to 6mm then fired in my chamber twice, now this difficult group was going to be #4. They are Prime casings. I have never worked with Prime before. The necks measured .015-.016 so I figured...
OP here. Yes, I was using the expander ball in a set of Hornady dies. I never do otherwise only this time I was necking down 6.5 brass to 6 and it happened to be very accurate so I left it. Maybe the working of the brass without annealing over several firings made the necks super tight. I have a...
They did break free somewhat like you suggest. It felt like pulling a big nail out of pine with that sort of squeaking sound and feel. I bet it was a combination of clean necks with a little corn cob dust in there creating friction, like a pitchers resin bag. I wonder why the One-Shot didn't...
From the beginning: I developed an accurate load with acceptable velocity and acceptable SD/ES numbers. The load is well below max and shows no sign of pressure, velocity is on the slow side of normal. I loaded up about 75 rounds and hit the range this morning. Upon arriving to the range, I...
There is not a lot of data that I could find on this combination. This recipe showed .33 MOA today. Ruger Precision Rifle 6mm Creedmoor 108 ELD-M Lands at 2.80, seated to 2.65 OAL 41gr H4350 CCI LR Norma 6.5 brass necked down 3020 FPS, 4.4 SD Every other seating depth showed poor accuracy...
I am about to pick up an RPR and seriously considering a barrel in 260 AI, the 40 degree version. Does anyone have any knowledge as to the feeding reliability with that chambering in that rifle? Thanks.
The summers in Las Vegas have become unbearable and I am looking for a permanent relocation to a mountain home, not in California but anywhere else. City/town size doesn't really matter. I have looked into Manitou Springs, CO and around Salt Lake City. Where else do you guys have in mind such...
I have been looking at the 280 Rem, Berger makes a pretty good bullet that might work real well. I have a 260 Rem that I really like. 1100 in stout wind was little trouble.
Seated any closer than .015, accuracy falls off immediately. Neck tension seems to matter but only a little. They are currently sized with a .331 bushing but .333 did well, I just can't get the .333 bushing unstuck from the full length die. Federal 07 brass and 215GM primer. Consistency is...
While working up a load of Retumbo and 208 Amax, I found the accuracy node at 76 grains. I left my half broken chrono at home but the trajectory is saying 3300 fps. The barrel is 29 inches. There is no way that can be close to accurate for velocity or can it?
I am getting a little more velocity and better accuracy with 46gr H4831sc and the 142SMK from a DPMS 260. Replacing the gas block is a must. Averaging 2784 fps at .38 MOA at 100. SD is the singles and low ES.
Since no one else has chimed in, I have noticed a huge variation in Berger bullets within the last year; both in weight and length. I have since switched to the A-Max.
Just today I had hang fires with Sellier and Bellot Large rifle magnum primers. I can imagine, with the right powder combination a regular large rifle primer could do the same thing. 215GM primers do me very well. Retumbo gave me the best velocity with the 210 Berger and 208 Amax while Norma...
