    A Good Problem to Have...

I was making small talk with my FFL dealer while making an unrelated transfer and long story short, he tried to make me a deal I couldn't refuse. He offered me an Anderson AM10 lower for $50 NIB. How could I refuse that? I couldn't, I bought it. I got home, he had sold me a matched AM10...

So I bought my first real rifle...

I think it shoots very well. My five shot groups were about .750 inches at 100 yards. I suspect any future improvement will come from the operator/hand loader learning and improving his game.

Thanks. I learned a little about bedding and feel even better about my buy.

So I bought my first real rifle...

Sorry for the delay and thanks for the great response. Here are a couple photos. One from the previous owner and one I took after mounting the scope. I am pleased with the way it shoots and the contours of the stock are the same as you guys are describing. (And yes, it has a HUGE palm swell...

So I bought my first real rifle...

I bought a used 700 police in 308 on gunbroker. I have never handled the hs precision stock, but the stock on this gun does not strike me as a $400 stock. The stock has a homemade paint job. How can I determine whether this is the stock that should be on a 700p? Thanks.

    Entry Level / Newb

    1. Primarily target 2. Paper/steel 3. I do reload. I have 308 components and tools. I've reloaded under 100 rifle rounds in my short career. 4. I will shoot 500 rifle rounds per year. 5. I will regularly shoot 100 yards. I will shoot two or three hundred yards whenever I can. I will...

    Entry Level / Newb

I've been working through this for several hours and the short answer is, "Yup, you're right!" But I'll qualify it a little more than that. When I first selected a cartridge "to major in" I was working from a menu, and one of the questions was, "Will you be hunting?" Well, maybe, I guess, so...

    Entry Level / Newb

Thanks for the comments so far! When I first started looking into this last fall I came to believe that a 308 could be "lobbed-in" at 1000 yards but a 243 had no prayer of reaching 1000. If I remember correctly, a big 308 (168gr, 175gr, 190gr, on up) can get to 1000 and still be super-sonic...

    Entry Level / Newb

Let's just ignore all the wrong things I know about shooting, and say I have zero long-gun experience. I want to shoot targets for fun with 308 from 100 yards and maybe up to 1000 yards someday. I have been lurking and reading long enough to know that I want a Remington 700. But I have...

To crimp or not? --Lee FCD/.308 for Ruger Scout.

I expect to try crimping soon. I have been watching videos from a guy who says without a crimp the bullet gently eases into the rifling very early in the powder ignition phase. With a crimp the powder undergoes slightly more complete combustion before overcoming the crimp. The bullet is launched...

    Reloader #19-Any Experience

I'm new to reloading and I too used rl19 out of desperation. I am using it in a 308 behind a generic 168gr hpbt. Overall it seems like a mild load compared to the Pakistani military surplus ammo I was shooting. That is a welcome change in a fifteen inch T/C handgun. My rl19 groups showed...

Starter Rifle Opinions - Which of these is the best deal?

Thanks for all the feedback! There were some great comments in there, just what I was looking for. And the winner is.........NOT ME! Some of the comments were prophetic, the three deals evaporated in hours. So I'm still lurking and looking. :)

Starter Rifle Opinions - Which of these is the best deal?

My latest fascination is long range shooting. I am looking for a starter rifle. If I can work my way up to hitting a pie plate at 500 yards I will be happy. If I can someday group within a couple inches at 500 yards that would be fantastic. 1000 yards is probably never going to be in my...
