I've got to a point with this build that I need some guidance in choosing the proper gas port diameter. Here's what I'm building. 224V 28in X-Caliber with +2" gas system i ordered the barrel and omited the gas port option. Working the kinks out of this build has been a learning experience...
I'm building one and wanted to see if anyone else has done this. Mine will have a 28" X-Caliber. I handload and have had good luck with my cousins 20" and this is just something to see what would happen with velocity.
I have recent build in 224 Valkyrie using a Sanders Armory side charging handle upper and a X-Caliber barrel. There is no gas in this build. Working the bolt back and forth, loading and extracting dummy rounds is fine. However, I can't extract a fired case by hand. I don't have headspace gauges...
There is something different between the FGMM and M118LR...nobody is taking into consideration the laquer type sealant used on the M118LR neck. Somewhere in my pile of data I will find the spec. There is no crimp but that sealant has to change things
Sorry..it was 308 and the 175's is heaviest I have at the moment. Very late when I posted..lol....might want to reread the post. I never said I was shooting past 100 yards. I am just seeking advise because I loaded the 10g trailboss and had 12in drop at 100 yards.
Loaded some 175smk with the with 10g of trailboss. To make a long story short these are still supersonic...about 1565fps. From my calculations. In have a 100 yard zero with 175 FGMM...according to my shooter app that has a velocity of 2380fps at 100yds. My subsonic impacts were 12" low. I...
Pulled a few of my 175 FGMM and when I reseated the bullet it made a slight crunch of a compressed load. Don't have my data in front of me but that was a first. Anyone else experience this? OAL confirmed 2.800
If I do my part I can get just over .25 MOA with 175g FGMM. Still trying to nail a clone of that one. My best and consistent load is: 168g AMAX 42.0g of RL-15 Fed brass and Fed210m primer Fully sized 2.800 OAL Gives me 1/3 MOA all day. Unknown velocity...I expect somewhere between...
Jumping in on your thread and hope you don't mind. Did some pull-down measurements and got the following. I was going to pull-down 10 rounds of each but stopped at 4 since it was late. I will save some time and give you my avg. over those 4 loads FGMM 175g - Bullet = 183.3g...
Lots of good advice here. The way I get the flinch out is to get behind the rifle, get into position and close my eyes and practice squeezing the trigger and NRP (dry firing). Then, hold your head up and start dry firing with both eyes open while I continue to practice the NRP and squeeze. I...
Only rounds I shot through a chrono are: FGMM 175 smk's avg velocity was 2538fps Hornady Match 168g A-Max avg velocity was 2587fps M118LR avg velocity was 2530 fps Conditions were: 70 deg 100% humidity Barometric pressure was about 30.00 Hope that helps.
