    Mammoth Challenge 2021

I have several pairs I wear for training. And I have bad ankles. But in competition I like the reduced weight, and more importantly - the extra breathing that low-tops can do. If you're even a small bit prone to blisters - you want the more breathable footwear you can manage. If you have...

    Mammoth sniper II

It's honestly never been an issue with me at all - and I'm not a small guy. Me and my gear exceed 300#, and I can't say I've seen any downside at all when it comes to "not being able to carry the weight". Just my $0.02.

    Mammoth sniper II

I can’t think of any circumstances where I would bring Gore-Tex boots to Mammoth. I’m not saying they don’t have their place anywhere, but I prefer a very light low top trail running shoe. Check out the Mammoth 2021 thread for a discussion on shoes.

    Mammoth Challenge 2021

For me, it was a really easy transition. But I have heard a few people complaining about it. I certainly wouldn’t buy a brand new pair and bring it to a match like Mammoth for the first time, but I would say that about any shoe. I wouldn’t bring any shoes I don’t have at least about 20 miles on.

I will be there! Haven’t missed a Mammoth since 2013, so I am not going to start now!

Failure to Fire / Light Strikes when reloading .223 on a Dillon 550

So after very systematically testing all aspects of the rifle / ammunition system, and collecting a lot of data, I think the root cause was drag on the sear. I was using a Bix'N'Andy with a MEDIUM sear. When I measured the offset per Bix'N'Andy instructions, the measurement indicated that even...

    Long COAL .223 Gas Gun

No doubt! But I think there are manufacturers who might take on that job if there was a clear plan. If I was trying to keep this "secret", I would not post it here. But I think there are enough people who would like to be able to shoot a more ballistically capable .223 gas gun that it would...

Failure to Fire / Light Strikes when reloading .223 on a Dillon 550

Its a recent Nucleus and per Ted, has a 16# spring. Given that it sets off factory ammo of multiple different brands with zero issues I’m inclined not to look too hard at the rifle. Also, I’ve taken this Dillon/CCI ammo to another rifle and also had issues. Not saying that maybe the rifle...

Failure to Fire / Light Strikes when reloading .223 on a Dillon 550

So first I modified the Dillon slightly more to seat the primers deeper. That required a bit of polishing on both the primer seating cup and the spring. Now I’m averaging about 0.002” deep with a bit of crush. Then I loaded 60 rounds from the Dillon, and half of them went across my RCBS...

    Long COAL .223 Gas Gun

Funny, I do aerospace level 3DP for a living. :) I do wonder about the 6ARC platform. I need to learn more about that cartridge (base diameter, coal, etc) to see if using that as a stepping off point might make sense. For this project, I can not use 223 AI as much as I might like to. Must...

    Long COAL .223 Gas Gun

I’m brainstorming the idea to help win national level team matches, like Mammoth, where 223 is often a requirement and gas guns provides a large advantage in certain scenarios. I train a lot. (Not as much as I should, but a lot LOL!!)

    6GT with 115 dtacs

Glad you like them! Care to share the lot # and the best matching G7? I'm curious if the new batch is going to G7 as high as previous batches.... And yes, if I'm going to have a barrel for 115 DTACs, it's going to be more than 170 freebore.

    Long COAL .223 Gas Gun

Can you expand on that? I don't see why a company could not utilize the .308 magwell with a custom magazine to fit it. Of course, it won't be compatible with the standard magwell on other AR15s. Am I missing something?

The whole point of my listing those things was so that we DIDN'T get side-tracked. :-(

    Long COAL .223 Gas Gun

I'm talking about a lower with a .308 sized magwell, and a custom magazine.

    Long COAL .223 Gas Gun

So I was thinking today that most gas-guns are limited in bullet selection (and in some parts powder capacity) mostly by magazine length, and that really limits what a .223 AR15 can do compared to a comparable bolt gun. (Yes, I know that the gas system robs gas volume, barrel length is...

Failure to Fire / Light Strikes when reloading .223 on a Dillon 550

Thank you! Some good logic here. So if I got a light strike in the past, I have just lifted the bolt handle and dropped it - resetting the firing pin without disturbing the round from the chamber. If I understand correctly, you’re saying eject the round and then rechamber it, because if its...

Failure to Fire / Light Strikes when reloading .223 on a Dillon 550

Thank you @CK1.0 and @TheOfficeT-Rex for the replies. I agree with both of you that this might be an issue. I could see how moving the cartridge forward in the brass could rob momentum from the firing pin, and that would certainly also explain why they often (usually) fire on the 2nd firing...
