My 338 Norma has a firing pin that floats so free I can hear it slide back and forth when I tip the bolt up and down. My .260 bolt is tighter and does not do that. If yours is really tight, perhaps it would leave a mark.
Feed lips worn or bent and unable to keep the top round in the mag as the bolt is in rearward motion during extraction/ejection. There’s a quick way to clear it without tools(about 5 seconds) but hard to describe. I’ll try: 1) pull back hard on charging handle. It’ll move less than an inch. 2)...
Question: do the A1 barrels fit the A2/M2 chassis? I have an A1 with 2 barrels, thinking of upgrading to the the M2 but I got such a good deal on my 338 Norma barrel, I’d like to keep it. I’d definitely lose money if I had to repurchase it.
I whipped up this little guy for my A1 a while back and thought some might like to see it. I dislike the bulky rail adaptors and this keeps my bore axis a little lower as well. Plus it was a fun project. I turned some stainless round stock down to the appropriate diameter, made a shank and...
Yes of course. I’m a seasoned reloader. But where is the real start? The max load in one book is lower than the start load in another. I will be working up, but with the cost of components, I’m trying to avoid unnecessary waste. Should I go with Hodgdon’s advice (They pointed to the Sierra...
I’m looking for data to deconflict different sources for a max load. I’m using 300gr Berger OTM with Retumbo. Standard SAAMI chamber. As you probably know, data is scarce. Sierra 6th edition lists the following: 300gr SMK 78.7gr Retumbo @ 2450fps with COAL 3.680” *But* I got this from...
I’ve had one for about 10 years. It is heavy, but dang it works. I’ve woken up after being snowed on. The snow was sitting on the bag where it hadn’t slid off, completely unmelted and powdery. I was snug as a bug. This was with a double bag plus bivy sack. Wiggy’s is both heavy and bulky. I...
Some advice for the new reloader. Don’t ever start at a max load. The article here should be mandatory reading for new reloaders. I’m glad it hasn’t bit you yet, but if starting at someone’s max load becomes a habit, it’ll become a problem...
I shot probably 50,000 rounds with irons over the last 20ish years as an LEO before I ever tried a dot. As many have said, dots will make you better. I recently began the switch to dots on several pistols and even a Gp100. I carry a 365XL with RomeoZero in a Tier 1 holster. I had been...
It’s a new time commitment, but I now have “primer independence” and I don’t sweat the price of powder anymore. I make hand-cast, powder coated 130gr 9mm ammo with homemade primers for roughly $30 per thousand. This takes me about 6-7 hours to produce, spread out over many evenings puttering in...
Roll your own primers. Way easier than I thought 8 months ago. Look up Aardvark reloading to get started if you care. I’m paying a few cents per 1k in chemicals. Costs about $100 or less in tools and chems to get started. I’m just doing pistol primers, non-corrosive. When I run out of rifle...
