Hey guys half way through my custom build. Rifle is going to be a .260 Remington with a Bartlien M40 contour. I was thinking of having medium heavy straight fluting done to the barrel. Will this effect anything or should I not have it fluted? Thanks guys !
I have a 27" Rock 7mm blank coming to me in Rem Varmint contour. I've been toying with the idea of getting it fluted.
I've read several different things though on the internet (go figure). some smiths say that you shouldn't flute your barrel after it leaves the manufacturer because it can...
I just got a new barrel from Lilja that has fluting on it. At the muzzle end of the fluting there are tool marks but not at the chamber end. I called them and they said that this is normal "tool chatter" where the machining started. I asked him how to remove it and he didnt give me any ideas...
I picked up an MTU contour bartlein that needs to go on a SERIOUS diet. Any idea on the number and size of flutes to maximize weight lose while not looking stupid or impacting accuracy.
TIA.
