10/22 Target

Re: 10/22 Target

I've built 3 of the gee-whiz 10-22's and can recommend that approach. Ruger is so lawyer infested that you'll still end up with a crappy trigger if you go that way. The only things left of the three 10-22 rifles are the receivers and bolts.

A caution here......if you build it, it won't be cheap. Don't think you'll get a bargain target rifle. I have some terrific bolt action .22 match rifles but I wanted something to shoot in the NRA High Power matches at 200 yards. There are 2 rapid fire stages in those matches and wanted semi autos to try out. That's the only way I could justify the expense of building these 10-22's

I'm almost ready to say the 10-22 with custom stock, good scope, heavy 20" barrel is ready for the 200 yard competition! A little more work with ammo selection and tweeking of the rifle, they will be ready to go!

The Trigger Guard 2000 is a complete CNC machined trigger guard equipped with precision EDM parts. It features an internal pretravel adjustment that is set at the factory in order to greatly reduce pretravel usually found on the factory trigger guard. This new match trigger guard is CNC machined from a solid billet of high strength aircraft aluminum. The hammer is a precision ground 440C stainless steel hardened component of 58 Rc. The sear and disconnector are EDM manufactured parts made of I would consider a good trigger first of all. I currently own two custom modified triggers and use the Volquartsen trigger systems exclusively. Buy a good barrel and build slow is what I tell everyone. If cheap is what you buy then cheap is what you get. The following is information for the trigger from Volquartsen:

A2 hardened tool steel with tolerances being held to +/- .0002” assuring every trigger let off to be extremely consistent. The trigger is black anodized and equipped with an overtravel adjustment screw. The trigger is reset internally to eliminate any dragging or inconsistencies caused by a conventional trigger plunger. The TG2000 comes with our own custom springs. An automatic bolt release and an extended magazine release are also included. Our new competition trigger guard is machined to give a superb, crisp trigger that will provide years of enjoyment to the shooter who demands the very best.

These are available from Midway and Brownells and can be installed by the non-gunsmith.

Re: 10/22 Target

The beginning of my thread go cut off so here is the skinny. I use Volquartsen triggers exclusively. They are very consistant and very well made. My advice to anyone building a rifle is to go slow and buy the best components. If you go fast and cheap then you get a quickly built cheap rifle that you will end up hating or putting more money into in order to fix what you did initally.

Re: 10/22 Target

if I had it to do over I would start with my last 10-22 and skip the rest, a kidd full custom, starting with the best would have saved $,light- accurate and runs any ammo I tried, also turn around was very quick about 3 weeks. Many of the match type 10-22s and barrels have tight chambers better suited for bolt guns and will not run reliably on various ammo, but I did learn a few things tinkering with the other 10-22s
