I need some info. Would I be better to thread my factory target barrel for a 10/22? Or buy a new barrel that's threaded for a suppressor? If I go aftermarket what company does everyone recommend?

Re: 10/22 threaded barrel

I can't help you with threading your factory barrel, but I went with a Kidd barrel and have been pleased. No suppressor yet however so it's just wearing a compensator (thread protector).

if your existing barrel shoots well....have it threaded

Re: 10/22 threaded barrel

Oodin, whose compensator are you using and how are your groups?

With my Kidd bbl, I was shooting 1" 10shot groups at 100yds, but I had to take my thread protector off because it messed with my accuracy. After a few shots, it would loosen up. And even with it tightened, I still think that the muzzle tension was causing some inconsistencies.

Kidd stuff is great.

BTW, it was only after I fit my suppressor that the thread protector would work loose. I think that he normally has some high threads near the shoulder to keep the thread protector from backing off.

I'm using a Tactical Solutions compensator. I haven't shot for groups, I set this 10/22 up as a fun plinker with a lightweight barrel and red dot sight. I did just check now and the comp was loose (no thread locker at all, hand tight) after my range session yesterday. We were only plinking out to ~25 yards though and the cans didn't notice the difference

OT: Took two new guys out shooting yesterday, they'd never shot a gun before.

Re: 10/22 threaded barrel

I cant remember the 'smith that does it, but when he threads a barrel he backbores the barrel and recrowns before the threaded portion to avoid the swelling that occurs when the muzzle is threaded.
