ok guys, say you were building a rifle off of a long action savage with a magnum bolt face with the intention of shooting steel to 1500+yards and big game hunting out to 800-1000yards. Given a $1500 budget including optics, what would you build(already have the donor so its the full 1500 into parts/optics) what would you build
-prefit barrel: brand, length, contour, caliber
-stock
-muzzlebrake
-optic/base/rings
-other accessories
I am already set up for reloaidng as well so that doesn't need to be included in the accessories

Re: $1500 budget

I would go for some sort of 7mm magnum. I <span style="font-style: italic">think</span> you can get a 7mm SAUM in a small shank, but I'm not positive. You would need a new bolt head for $25.

Pac-Nor barrels, 26", #7 contour ($435)

Choate stock ($225)

CDI DBM ($210)

Skip the brake for that budget. Or get a brake and skip the DBM.

Weaver Tactical base ($25)

Seekins rings ($115)

Leaves you with $465 for a scope. I think I would actually skip the DBM and the brake, leaving $675 for a scope.

Uber-cheap:
Boyd FT/VT or Bell & Carlson Duramaxx stock ($100)
Savage 24" 7RM takeoff barrel, or 300WM 'midweight' barrel from Numrich (<$100)
SWFA SS 12x MRAD scope ($300)
Burris XTR 30mm low rings ($60)
EGW 20MOA base ($50)

Way mo'betta:
Manners MCS-T, two cups, one stud ($530)
Criterion 26" 1:9 light varmint contour 7RM or 7SAUM barrel and NSS lug ($350)
Vortex Viper HS 5-15x44 ($500 when they come back to Midway)
Burris XTR 30mm low rings ($60)
EGW 20MOA base ($50)
