Ok. I am reading guys reloading reports about the 155 scenar and they are saying 46.4 to 46.7. Well just to be on the safe side I loaded 5 rounds using lapua brass 45.7 grains of varget and a Remington 9 1/2 lr primer. Shockingly I inspected the spent cases and found that the (ejector ,extracter?) had left a dent in the case. I am shooting a Gap .308 crusader. If anyone has any rhyme or reason for this please help me out!

GAP with a 20in. Bart. .308 win. chamber the same as yours and using 155 Lap. scenars,47 gr Varget, Lapua brass, Fed primers and getting 2940fps. confirmed out to 1200m

I know every rifle is different but try getting the 155 up to at least 2900fps.

If your just getting a little swipe and not showing primer flattening or harder extraction then you can still creep up in small increments as IMO you have not found the upper limits.

During load development in my stick, I went to 47.8 gr. (47 is Hodgdon max,I know) without anything more than some swipe.
However there were no fps increases after 47.2 gr anyways.

47gr. varget at 2940fps is the 1/2 moa or less node for my rifle.

Note: to date there is 20 firings on this lot of Lapua brass with annealing every 4th, I don't consider this to hot.

Try doing an Optimum Charge Weight test and see where you end up.

Re: 155 scenars out of a GA Precision ? Help!

I am currently shooting 155 Scenars in Win Brass CCI primers with 47.8 gr Varget. Early in load development, my gun was showing pressure signs at 43.6 gr Varget. I finally traced this down to secondary ignition <pressure spike>. Anyways, I tend to get 30+ reload cycles on this brass with 47.8 gr Varget without blowing primer pockets or necks, so it "can't be that far" over the edge.

Barrel is 23" with a1:11.25 twist. I did make up some different loads and again I learned velocity isn't everything. 45.0 varget meaned 2863 fps with a sd of 11 (10) shots. 100 yds first 5 went in same hole. The rest clovered. .5 (maybe a little less moa. Next I shot 46.2 and got a mean of 2951 fps with A pretty big sd and es. Was barely 1 moa. So I guess my pole likes em a little slower. 2863 fps is plenty to get on out there.

If you went from 45 to 46.2 then you missed the accuracy node in between. I would recommend bumping up in .5 grain increments until you start to see pressure signs. Then I would back off 1 grain from max and load up in .1 grain increments (1.5 grains below max to .5 grains below max) and look for another accuracy node. You may not find one and 45 grains maybe where its at for you. However if you can run the scenars at 2900+ you will have a flat shooting stick.

Re: 155 scenars out of a GA Precision ? Help!

Are you sure your scale is accurate/calibrated properly?

155 Scenars with 46.5 varget in Lapua brass do 2850fps in my Crusader. No ejector marks at all (this is in 98degree weather).

I'd bet your scale reads low.

Re: 155 scenars out of a GA Precision ? Help!

Yes my scale is a rcbs digital. I recalibrate it every time I turn it on. Went out to 700 yds fairly easily with 45grains. My spotter said that their was a little arch but not much. Wrote everything down in my log book. Took the ride down to the target and it shot sub moa.

Have you checked it against another scale? I've had several cheaper electronic scales that would calibrate fine, then read high or low. Granted the RCBS isn't a cheap scale, but it could be a little out of whack. I check mine every so often against my balance beam now to make sure it's not lying to me.

I just run some 155 AMax test loads from 44.5gr up to 47.5gr of Varget without a hint of overpressure. Damn nice accuracy node from 46.3gr to 46.9gr too.
