Looking for feedback on 155's in the GAP-10 18.5" barrel. Basically what kinda results have you gotten and with what loads. I've looked around and am not seeing much. Thanks.

Re: 155's in your GAP-10

They are all I run in my GAP-10. I shot 3-400 of them at one of Rifles Only's Precision Semi-Auto courses. I have never chronographed them or anything, but I was really happy with how they performed. We shot anywhere from 15-700 yards.

Not sure what others will say but don't load them like you see posted on her for the bolt guns trying to reach 3k with them. Keep it under 2800 or what ever is equivalent to 2650 for 175s. or you may be eating your buffer spring.

Re: 155's in your GAP-10

I had the JP LRP-07 (308) out yesterday trying the 155's, they were Hunting Shack factory loads. Got phenomenal groups at 295 yards. When I moved out to 1K yards we thought that we were just missing the steel plate, but upon moving the target we saw some hits. I'm guessing they didn't have enough umph to swing it. Does this seem to be a common issue with the lighter 308 bullets?

Mine made plentyof noise at 700 yards, but that's well short of 1000.

Re: 155's in your GAP-10

Its all about velocity with 155s. If you can get around 2900fps plus you will ahve good 1000 yard ammo, under all conditions. Drop velocity down to 2800fps and when cold or low elevation it become less reliable.

I suggest 44.0 grains of H4895 with 155 Scenars, or 155.5 Berger Full Bores as the bullets to use. The old Palma bullets and other brands dont have BC's high enough to work past 900 yards with AR10 velocities

Re: 155's in your GAP-10

I tried to work up a 155.5 Berger FB load for both my 18" gas gun as well as my 20'' bolt gun but could never get a high enough MV to justify the extra cost compared to the 175SMK. These loads where all with federal brass, 210M primers and Varget. It has a been a few months since I tried this and can't remember the exact numbers but when com paired to the 175 load I currently run the difference in drop and in wind drift was so close I dropped the project and stuck with the 175s. My personal opinion would be if your barrel is shorter than 22" your just as well off shooting the 175s. I am by no means saying don't do it, I personal just could not justify the cost. Once I replace my 20" barrel with a 24" I will definitely try to work up a load with the 155s as with a higher MV the do show less wind drift mainly due to less exposure time of the bullet.

Varget is wrong powder for this application. Varget shines with 155's in 30" tubes because it is a slower powder. Hence does better in the short tube with 175s but not fast enough for the short tube and 155s.

Your brass choice is less than perfect. The Federal is basically the second worse on the planet with only Remington being worse. Get some Lapu, WW or 118LR brass and you will do better in the short barrel

Just for info my 20" bolt gun has no problem consistently launching 155 Scenars at 2950fps and grouping well at a 1000 yards
