I was wondering if anyone has had any problems seating 155 scenars long? I see where some guys have posted that the seat them out to 2.9 or longer, but that doesn't leave much bullet in the neck. I have read before that most people want at least a bullet diameter of seating depth in the neck. What are your thoughts?

yep factory 5r from remington. I have been seating them to mag length, but I was contemplating moving them out a little bit to see if it made a diffrence.

Re: 155's seated long?

You won't see a change, those lands are way to far out there. I'm just starting to load them in a factory rem.my self and everyone is telling me to jump them and run em fast. Just stick with mag length and you will be good to go.

Re: 155's seated long?

I am trying to get them fast, but with 47.1gr. of varget I am only getting a little over 2800fps. I went to 47.5 and got 2875 but the accuracy was slipping. I read where some where shooting up to 47.8 I might try that. I wasn't getting pressure with the 47.5 so I think I will try again.

Re: 155's seated long?

I ran them at 2.92 in a 700P. I was using a little quicker powder, Benchmark and IMR-3031 and no problems getting to mid 2900's with very good accuracy. Rifle is at the smith right now getting squared up and a new barrel. Had a reamer made from a full length sized dummy round with a Scenar seated at 2.925. I'm going to work on the 155's with the new 8208XBR and see where it takes me.

Good luck and watch your pressure

Re: 155's seated long?

Just went to 47.8 with no pressure problems. I am using win. brass. Shot 5 shots a 250yds. elevation on the group was under an inch, but the horizontal was about 4 in. 3 shots where touching each other and one went out each side about 2 in. I think it may be my technique, but I will load some more and see.

Ditch that idea and seat them long. Just twist the bullet and make sure it's not going to fall out.

Found two nodes in my AIAW at that range. One is at 47.4 grains Varget and the other is 48. Both a sub-sub MOA. In my old AIAW I seated them at 2.910". With the new model (09), the chamber length only allows me to seat them at 2.875".
