Plenty of people will tell you why you don’t want one and my reply would be because I don’t have one, which for me anyway is reason enough. Just curious what kind of game you are shooting?

That’s where I am. I just want one. I like 7mm anything and I think it would be a fun caliber. My 6.5 is as good as it gets. I had SAC build it and it’s awesome. When I put a 7” can on it, it’s cumbersom to tote around the woods. This would be for hunting whitetail and those situations when I’m in the thick stuff. I can keep the 6.5 for stand hunting with wide open fields. I have two 6.5’s so I figured I’d do something different. Had a 300 WSM built and regretted not going 7-300 WSM, until it was done. Had that one built on a long action and shooting 215’s and it’s bad ass. Still have the 7mm bug though. So I like the idea of a shorty. Just can’t find much on a shorty in 7mm-08.

It's not a really clean rifle, a little crude because I did most of the work myself ( some things I will pay someone next time )

Base rifle is a Remington 700 varmint lh
The bolt is fluted by lri, and threaded by myself with a badger ordnance knob
The barrel was originally shortened by Redhawk rifles to 20" and then a second time to 16" by accurate ordnance

The stock is a hs precision, kmw cheekrise done myself, it has an arcade plate so I can mount it directly to the tripod, some flush cups.

The suppressor is a gemtech tracker

@ Sid

I love it. Clean, simple, useful. I'm ignorant of many things, suppressors included. Did you elect to direct thread that suppressor? What is the glass?

I'm off to peruse the suppressor threads...

The glass is swfa 12-44 not great but works good for this rifle.

This is my first suppressor it's a direct threaded one, I thought I would only use it for hunting but I even used it for competition, I have a silencerco Omega, and a yhm suppressor in NFA jail so I get to see what I like more, direct threaded or something else.

Next thing I will add to the rifle is a piccatiny rail for the bipod and possibly night vision mount, but I have time with that since I can't own night vision yet since I have a green card and are not a us citizen yet.. 3 more years :)

Around there. I think it might be closer to 16.25 but I'm not entirely sure. I told my gunsmith to cut it as short as he legally can.

Also new pic since I found out my rings were too high.

Here is my Frankenstein rifle, shorty barrel and shorty scope. Just got this back from SAC after having a tweak or two done to bring it all together. 16.25" Kreiger barrel, Surgeon action, etc.

Nice. I've been wanting to do a very similar build for awhile now. Hopefully I'll have the suppressor and Manners stock by the end of the year.

that was just a bench shot. ill take some better pics when i get it out in the country and start sending rounds through it. its a pieced together gun, out of used parts of all sorts, but i do enjoy how it came together. The barrel fluting was almost an afterthought, as i was having Mark Gordon bed the action and modify the McMillan for the Surgeon bolt release bumpout. i think it took a little bit off the MTU contour. told him to leave the flutes raw and not coat them. Everything on the gun is a different color of black, green, camo, tan, etc.

For those reloading for a short 6.5 creed, what velocity are you seeing the best accuracy? What powder and charge gets you there?

Mine is a 18” creed. I get 2675 FPS out of the 130 Berger hybrids. My load is h4350 at 43.7 gr in prime brass.

20” proof at 2815 with 130 HVLD or 130 Berger with H4350.

I have always loved the looks of the TacOps rifle. I had a couple different parts laying around the house so this is what I came up with, though I still have some work to go.

GAP barreled action cut to 18 inches
Manners folder
Black ops bottom metal
Defiance EFR
And slapped some MarineTex on it.

A young gunsmith in Tucson put this together for me earlier this year. 300 blackout, MPA chassis, Stolle Atlas Kelby action, Trigger Tech trigger, 16” Kriger Barrell. Ended up naming it “Spanky” after kidding around while it was being built and found that the gunsmith was nicknamed Spanky when he was younger. The can is a TBAC Ultra 5CH with a CB muzzle brake.

I am sure this was debated somewhere in here... but as a non-reloader: 16" .308 or 6.5CM!?

Pick your poison. Both calibers have great factory ammo options. I’ve run short barrels in both and don’t personally have a preference one way or another.

DT A2 Covert, 16”, 308 win. With Gemtech can it’s 37” total. Love the way this things shoots and balances.

Beautiful gun.. I ended up ordering a 16" 6.5CM barrel for my DT A1. I can't wait for it to come in and finally take advantage of this short platform.

Painless300———“I have a 16” 6.5x47 shorty barrel. I’m getting 2825 FPS with 130 berg hyb. On top of 29 gr of Varget suppressed with an Ulta 7 TBAC. Just a great platform to run short barrels.”

That’s awesome. I am using the good old 44gr Varget with 175’s. Getting 2615 FPS. Want to load up some 178 eld-x for hunting this year.

Painless who did your barrel work? I like that spiral fluting! I want to get a 16” 6.5 (something) by the end of the year. I haven’t decided which 6.5 I want to get yet.

Mark at SAC fixed me up, I was trying put that beast on a diet. He cut almost a half pound in just the fluting.

I have to ask how? Tight bore? Different climate? That's nearly what i was running out of my main gun with 130gr Hybrids over 37.3gr of Varget. Currently running 37.6gr of varget with 130gr normas at 2840. I'll be going back to the ELD after the Norma runs out but even then my 18" 6.5x47 saw 2715fps out of 130gr ELD-M with 37.3gr of varget. Did you mean 39gr of varget?

Sorry, yes 39g. Fat fingers on a iPhone! I’ll edit my post and add a pic of the last 5 round group. Love this little barrel!

I'm only getting 2830 out of my 24" 6.5 creed with 42.7gr of 4350.

Is the with 140/143g? In my experience I get much better velocity with Varget with the lighter 130g than 4350, its a little faster burning. 4350 is better suited for the heavies.
