I recently got a Bushmaster 16" AR upper chambered in 5.56 with a 1:9 twist on a trade. This being a popular combination, I was wondering what range/accuracy some of you guys have been getting. What type of scopes are you using? I was contemplating 1-5x scopes. I've noticed a lot of guys on other sites using Millet and the new Leupold Mk AR scopes. The Nightforce 1-4x looks great (and I love my 3.5-15x) but it is rather more than I was looking to spend. Any opinions on these scopes? I'll be firing at paper targets and probably stick to 55-62gr bullets. I appreciate any information, thanks!

PS-The search function didn't come up with much....

Re: 16" AR scope?

I run a Burris FFII 2-7 on my 18" rig. I like it. It is small and light enough that it doesn't take over the gun like some of the larger scopes will. If I were going to do it over again, I would run a Nikon Omega and a GGG scout rail (so I can clear the charge handle). There are lots of great options in the $600-$1000 range including the IOR FFP ILL 2-10. Liberty optics has them now.

Re: 16" AR scope?

Check out the Burris XTR-14 1X-4X-24mm.

It's a very nice setup at a reasonable price.

I really like their illuminated 5.56 ballistic reticle.

Comes with rings and a piggy back red dot site or you can just get the scope.

Re: 16" AR scope?

non precision 50-300 yard paper shooting - ACOG

if you need the easy adjustment get a 1-4 or a 2.5-8 nxs

if budget does not allow the XTR scopes are very nice for the money

Re: 16" AR scope?

One of the guys at work as the Millett 1-4 and it has done everything he has asked of it with no problem. I have shot with it and it is pretty nice, especially in the price point. I just like a little more magnification if I am going to run a scope.

I am an IOR fan and the 1.5-8 would be worth a look.

I have a Burris Fullfield tactical and would think the 2-7 would be worth a look. In fact I was going to go this route until I decided to spend a little more and go with the IOR 2-12.

Re: 16" AR scope?

Thanks for all the imput guys. There seems to be a lot of guys using the Burris XTR. Strangedays brought up using a "red dot"-type sight with a magnifier. I hadn't considered this. I do have an Aimpoint floating around but no maginier. Has anyone used this set up? What do you think? I like the all-in-one idea of a variable magnification scope but really I have no experience with either one on an AR carbine so I would appreciate any input. Thanks again.

I have the NF 1-4 w/ FC-2 on my Bravo Co middy build. I zeroed it with PMC ball at 100 and have figured out my hold overs out to 5. I used a 12x12" plate to hit. I actually went to 6, but the reticle is well above the target, still hitting it though. I made a little guide with pictograms and tapped it inside the scope cover. For what I'm using it for, I like the scope alot.
