162 Amax Jump it or Jam it?

Re: 162 Amax Jump it or Jam it?

Sorry I ddin't notice your thread and get back to you in under 3 hours.....

How long is your magazine, and how deep is your throat? What I do is irrelevant, but I run them about .020" off the lands. Never bothered jamming because a) if I ever have to clear my rifle that has a round chambered and I get a bullet stuck in the barrel and powder in my action and trigger I'll be pissed and b) they don't reach the lands at my mag length and if I can't run a mag I don't care how good it shoots in the lands. Then there's c) what makes you think throat erosion happens perfectly symetrically-you may be jamming into throat that's not concetric and square tothe bore anyway-I believe a jump from consistent neck tension leads to better consistency than starting out jammed unevenly.

Hope this helps.

I don't shoot the 162 AMAX but shoot a bunch of others and have always found that a jump between .010 and .020 works the best.
