Me thinks frogs jump around and ogives vary.

Don't drive yourself insane worrying over the 175 SMK ogive length.

Re: 175 SMK Ogive ???

If loading for accuracy you need a comparator, that way you can keep a watch on your settings to see if they are consistent. Loading for over all length is using the bullet tip which can vary even in match bullets, also it depends on you bullet seating die. If yours uses the tip of the bullet as the press point then you depths will be all over the place. If this is what you have the stem will have to be opened up so it will be referenced farther down the bullet where there is more consistency.

Re: 175 SMK Ogive ???

Ditto what Barretshooter said.
Best- and cheapest- tool I ever bought was the bullet comparator, and OAL gauge.
Measure the ogive length with the bullet touching the lands, deduct .01 (give or take), and go shooting.

Course that .01 is subject to experimentation, but it ends up being pretty good for me most of the time.

Re: 175 SMK Ogive ???

Thanks guys

Mr T. and Rebel exactly info I was looking for. Have two comparators (sinclair 8 sided and one that attaches to the caliper). I was getting two different readings and I just wanted to know which was the one closer to what everyone else was getting.
