I am working on a precision build rem 700 chamber for a .308 and the last piece of the project is glass. I am looking for variable zoom with mil-dot drop compensator for 175-180gr projectile. Any ideas?

Yeah, any tactical/target turret equipped scope will be drop compensated for it and be more accurate for your specific load, MV and atmospheric conditions at the moment of shot. Use JBM online or one of the ballistic apps for your smartphone and you can develop drop charts that will smoke any one-size-fits-most turret or reticle. You're a 2112, you are around one of the best scopes in the world all the time.

What are you really looking for? Unertl/MST-100 style dial-a-yard / ACOG-ish ballistic reticle or a standard mil based reticle with dialing turrets? What is your budget? Is this your personal build or for someone else?

If you are a 2112 then you already know about the various leupolds and S&B scopes in use. The scopes I would be looking at would be the bushnell hdmr, nightforce f1, and vortex razor hd.

With the advance in optics technology and the creation of so many different companies I havent kept up with them all. I am looking for a similar quality but cheaper cost compared to a schmidt and bender. A standard mil with dialing turrets. I am looking to spend around 1000-1200 not including the rings. This is going on my presonal rifle that I have been working on for awhile so quality and the right optic has my attention right now. I will be firing this rifle at 100 - 1000 depending on the terrain so flexability and usability is a large concern.

I do like the Leupold and Schmidt&Bender scopes the military uses but I don't want to spend 3K for glass, dont get me wrong I would like too. I will look into those scopes, thank you for the suggestion.

OK, I understand a bit better now what you're looking for. Are you still active? If so, I would look into a Vortex HD 5-20x or a NF F1 3-15x on the mil discount. It may not put you fully into your budget, but they're both high quality scopes that are durable and accurate, and will certainly be a value add to the rifle as well. You won't regret either, but you may need to come up on the budget a bit. The F1 at least comes with rings most of the time.

If you're out, then look to the SWFA 5-20x50 non-illuminated version. You lose zero stop capabilities, but it is a clear optic that is durable, backed by the company, and will track accurately. You can find them used for around $1050-$1100, or new from SWFA at $1250. Cheaper than that, there may be some Bushnell HDMR deals still running around for $1k, but a lot of those have a Horus reticle which I don't recommend.

I would certainly look into used or demos as well. I've purchased used scopes a few times on the Hide, and have been very pleased with the deals. Many here have scope and rifle ADD, and are constantly chasing the next best thing. Let their indecisiveness be your gain.

Yes, I am still active and kicking. Thanks for the input I will give them all a look. I am frugel with money so I low ball my budget, so I could probably bump it up to 1500. Thanks for all the input
