First time posting. Any suggestions on how to deal with this jam? I registered for CMP forums to ask there, but am not yet approved. Smith Corona M1903A3 1943 Bolt won't budge. Round is a little loose, but won't come out. Obviously not going to try forcing anything just yet.

This is a copy paste:

The ejector does not have a spring. It cams into the slot on the left side of the bolt as the bolt is pulled to the rear of the receiver. If you pull the bolt back slowly, the fired casing will not flip out. This is an advantage when you are shooting from a bench working up loads. If you pull the bolt back sharply, the fired casing will be ejected vigorously to the right. You might want to check the extractor to make sure that the claw is getting a good grip on the extractor rim of the cartridge case. If necessary neither a new extractor or ejector is expensive. HTH. Sincerely. BruceV.

Set the cartridge override "on - off" selector to the neutral position and remove the bolt. Slide cartridge down off the face. This is a control feed rifle all rounds must feed from the magazine and slide upward under the extractor. If you hand fed it and forced the extractor over the rim you probably deformed it and that's why it's stuck.

Just push down on the base of the cartridge. It will snap free, slide off the bolt face, and fall through the magazine well without damaging anything. You can address the ejector issue then.

Really? This is good information to have..

No. Mauser Claw extractors are by-design supposed to be able to snap over the rim of a cartridge. This includes Mauser 96, 98, 1903's, Model 1917/P14, Winchester Model 70, Ruger M77, etc... Even new Mausingfield actions from American Rifle Co.

The only time this is not the case is when parts are not fitted correctly. Either factory goofs or cobbled together mis-matched parts rifles.

Thanks all. Got the round out. I'll have a gunsmith check it out.
