After spending some great range time with my SA 1911 Loaded Operator, I've got a few ideas for upgrading it. I'd like to replace the grips to reduce slippage during hot summer days shooting. Right now I've got the stock checkered wooden grips, and I'd like to know what you gents who shoot IPSC and IDPA use.
Secondly, my pistol doesn't like light SWC loads. Either the recoil spring is too hot, or it has issues with SWCs, but the second to last round often gets hung up on the extractor and won't pop out the round. Should I simply pump up the powder charges on the SWCs or get a lighter recoil spring? Would the lighter spring still be ok to properly cycle combat loads for home defense?
Finally, I was thinking of putting some grip tape along the side to aid in racking the slide. Will that damage the coating on the slide, or should the coating be able to handle the grip tape without any issues?
Thanks for the help.
