Sidearms & Scatterguns 1911 itch. Sig, Kimber, DW, Colt options

Just to finish off this story....

Ordered the Colt M45a1. Got a smoking deal on a new one in exchange for a little labor. With colts new found hatred for the civilian market I figured I'd snatch one up before they made any other hasty decisions.

Dan wesson is for sure in the future though...I'm eyeing their EMP and ECO pretty heavily. Been carring a SIG p938 for about 6+ years now and think it will soon be time freshen up the daily soon.

Glad you like your M45A1. I've got a couple as well. I still like my Dan Wesson Specialist a bit better in the fit and finish, but there's just something about having a Colt.

I have 5-10 k rounds thru a Kimber Gold match I bought new around 1995.
It's very smooth accurate gun But I've been out of that loop a good 20 years so I don't know how they compare to todays 1911's.
Only had one mim part fail me and I shot full power loads thru it for Pin shooting exclusively .
The Barrel bushing broke which I replaced with a solid steel one. i think I paid 785.00 for it back then.
It's a keeper. Front strap is checkered by a fellow shooter /gunsmith and re blued, also a little trigger tuning and a mag well funnel.
Added night sights after I no longer shot pins with it and crimson trace grips. Have a ss Colt bought around the same time frame but the slide to frame fit is pretty loose compared to the steel Kimber. Its been customized a good bit and has been reliable as well.

Havent gotten it yet, still on order from his supplier. I like your black slide version...wish they all had front strap checkering. I'm going to shoot it a bit but will likely end up throwing some talon grip tape on it. The savings from the Colt are going to help with the amount of mags, holster and surefire I plan on getting to round this package out. Very excited for it...such a pretty pistol.

You will enjoy your Colt.

Grease it up and run it.

Congrats on the Colt! I do believe you are going to love it! I had a 1911 (well a 2011) that I've been waiting on for about 5 months to have built arrive Saturday. I'm smitten by it!

Aaaaand she's mine. Came with only one Wilson Combat 7rd though. Was expecting 2 of some brand so going to have to get on a mug buy now. Sad part is i have to wait until Saturday ro shoot her ?

You will love it.

Already do...wife is tired of me walking around with it on my hip doing draw, reload and dry fire practice everywhere :ROFLMAO:.

Oddly...I kept reading the X300u-A was a very tight fit on the rail and you had to loosen the screws to get it on. Well mine was loose as a goose and I had to use the universal mount with the wedge screw to add pressure and tighten her up. Wonder if specs changed on the light or rail?

Bought an X300 for mine but ended up mounting on an AR.

Been watching the PX for a second to show up.

My other 1911s are Commanders so Id expect they would be a little more snappy than full size but the double spring recoil set up on these just seems to really tame the full size gun. Its a great shooting feel.

Can't go won't with a Dan Wesson. STI is awesome too. Although i believe they have moved away from single stack models. Les Baer also top notch for a semi custom.
Here's the STI Marauder 2011.

I did not read all the post. My suggestion is that if you want a 1911 get it in .45ACP.
If you want a 9mm there are far better platforms for it.

I find it interesting that when the 9mm/45 ACP topic is mentioned folks comment on vast improvements in 9mm ammo. The exact same improvements have been applied to the .45 ACP. The gap has not closed. Both have moved up the scale in equal parts.

I disagree. 9mm in 1911 or 2011 is an excellent choice. If you are a 1911 guy and want to shoot 9mm or any other caliber besides .45 what better platform than a 1911? I prefer my 9mm 19/2011's over my .45's though I shoot both about the same number of rounds a year.

No question the 9mm is more comfortable to shoot. I shoot my .22 Colt Woodsman pistols a great deal. They are even more comfortable.

For centerfire SD, I am looking for a pistol that is comforting, not comfortable.

No argument with that thought. I am more of an accurate double or triple tap as fast as I can shoot thinker. I am sure I don't want to get shot with the woodsman or the .45

I like my M45A1 great pistol. I like that they have no MIM parts not a deal breaker as far as pistols for me but a cool feature.. What brand of holster is that shown in the picture?

Yea I used the 9mm advancements argument until I realized what you just said...improvements are applied across the board as any smart company would likely do haha.

Looked at the STI Staccato R which is the single stack but what I got this for at the end of the day I couldnt justify the STI or even a DW. I got to put hands on one of these before I got mine and it kind of sealed the deal. Trigger on mine is on par with a Kimber and the Kimber is 97% of a DW I tested back to back so I'm very happy with the selection.

The holster is a Safariland 62XX. If you select a holster, do the select firearm and then select holsters that fit my gun it will pop up. You can get it for light bearing or non light bearing. I always loved safariland I just wish they made it in the ALS release instead of the strap but no big loss, still one of the best holsters in my opinion.

Its a heavy beast with the X300u on but I expect it should help bring sights back down after a shot. Also really excited to see how the dual spring feels compared to the DW and Kimber ive been playing with in the meantime. Across the board everyone says its softer.

Love .45ACP but I feel perfectly comfortable with between 9 and 38 rounds of 124gr HST +P on my person. If I was truly concerned I'd tote my old mans 10mm Delta Elite with full house loads or his .475 Wildey Mag (The pistol Bronson carried in Death Wish). 250 gr JHP with 1900 ft/lbs would make me ultimately confident (for the first shot anyways! Damn thing has some wicked muzzle flip! ) but collateral damage might be an issue! In the mean time I'm loving my 9mm 1911s/2011s. Just added this to the collection.
