Ok you 1911 specalists my Kimber Raptor II is a blued model with the 5" barrel. The gun has about 1,2000 rounds through it and I just changed put a Wilson Combat spring kit in it about 6 months ago. The gun ran great after the spring kit was installed for about 500-600 rounds.
Now the last time I had it out I was having and issue with the re-charging the gun when I placed a full mag in the gun after the slide stayed open after the last round.

So to describe the semi-malfunction....

I have a full mag in the gun one in the pipe...
Empty the mag and the slide locks back in the proper position for the re-load..
I reload a new mag and me being left handed I can't pull back the slipe and let go to charge the next round..
The only way to put the next round in the chamber is to manually push the slide lock down to get the slide to chamber the first round from the new mag.

All of the Mags are the Wilson Combat 47D and I'm running store bought ammo ball target stuff if that matters....

Is their some spring that disengages the slide stop that could be in a bind of broken??

Please Help...

Thanks,

Thanks,

Not sure if I really understand your description? If above is what you are referring to...........................it is operating correctly, no malfunction!

If you mean that you CANNOT pull the slide back manually and release if from slide slide lock then:

Do you have a Wilson Shock Buff installed? They commonly cause that type of problem. This can also be the result of an improperly fitted full length guide rod or binding barrel link. Is the pin on your slide stop worn?

Not really a malfunction it will not allow me to pull the slide back to charge the next round.

On a good note I did call Kimber and exlained the issue to them and the tolerances are too close to run the recoil buffer from Wilson Combat. This is a little plastic recoil spacer than goes on the guide rod that gives a little cushion to the recoil. I removed the buffer spacer and it charges the next round fine now.....

So thanks for the input...

Kimber tolerances are not "tight." I know guys running buffers in Kimbers. Some recoil springs are longer than others and occasionally require trimming to fit, even without buffers. If you really want to use buffers (and I see no reason), remove the recoil spring, pull the slide to the rear and note the position of the slide stop in relation to the notch. Trim your spring until you can match the position with it installed.

Thanks EddieNFL for the suggestions.

I mostly use SniperHIDE for the classified section and the Bolt Action Tactical Rifle information and usually do not comment in this particular section. But after a couple of posts it really seems llike the Kimber Brand is taking a beating.

By no means am I defending Kimber but the full size Raptor II model I have which I bought new in 2006 has given me no problems. Now you do have to keep it clean and lubed but weather it is 185grain Hollow Points or 230 grain Ball Ammo for me the gun has ran great?

Has the company really gone down that much in 5-6 years or did I luck out and get a god one. The whole tightness thing for the frame to slide in my opinion is tons better than a Delta Elite Colt I have but I've never had the pleasure of running a Les Bear or Wilson so I'm not a good judge of a custom pistol.

I'm mostly a rifle guy that hunts a lot so I really do not run the pistols I have more that 1,000- 1,500 rounds a year so maybe I just do not use it enough......

I have an Eclipse Custom I'll never part with. Other purchases proved less than stellar. Over the past decade or so Kimber has struggled with QC at times. Out of spec slide stops, poor extractor tension, complaints of corrosion, the cursed attempt at an external extractor and a reputation for less than helpful customer service attitudes at times. They also use more MIM parts than others in the mid-range price level. Nothing bad about MIM, if properly made.

If you have a shooter, drive on.
