I have a kimber series 1 gold combat that needs a new finish. I was thinking ION bond but wanted to get your opinions.

ION Bond or cerekote? Also who does good work on either/who has a good experince with either.

Re: 1911 refinishing question

Ion bond is a badass finish although I'm in love with Ferritic Nitro-carburizing, aka Tenifer aka melonite aka nitriding aka salt bath nitriding.

Phantom Finishing is a hide sponsor and does ion bond.

Re: 1911 refinishing question

Ionbond is a great finish for steels and moving parts. If you're wanting a black finish for your 1911, I think that it is one of the very best options available. If you're wanting colors then you'll want to look into cerakote.

Re: 1911 refinishing question

Years ago I had Robar refinish my 1911 with black Roguard and NP3 internals. The finish turned out well and it lasted farily well for as long as I owned te pistol.

On;y concern I had was they engraved the SN on all the loose parts. I know it didn't change anything for the pistol, but I didn't like it regardless. I undeestand it was to keep the right parts with the right gun.
