With old eyes I am "looking" at putting a red dot sight on my 1911 S&W PC carry pistol. has anyone done this and if so where did you find a gun smith to mill the top and tap it for the mounting plate. I am in Wisconsin and cannot seem to find a smith to do this?

I 100% agree that having the slide milled would be a better option as far as being more solid and getting the dot lower but if you just want to try to it make sure you like it this may be an option before making any modifications: https://www.leupold.com/scope-mounts/dp-pro-dovetail-mount-1911

I got this years ago and has served me well. It was easy to install.
I've used it in several PRS matches where pistol stages were involved.
This was sold as a complete set mounts and red dot for a 1911 plus a
Picatinny mount.
