Well, was hoping for a nice 6x6 and there were a couple, but was faced with weather, first elk hunt, and staying by myself in Rawlins at the hotel after everybody took off with there kill. Made the call and took this 5x5 at 465yrds with a 300WM running 168gr Berger VLD's. Dropped like a rock, but needed a finish shot. Hunted 64,000 acres of private land.
Also called and just shot a bunch of yotes. Will go back soon for some more of that yote calling.

    Suggestions for such a hunt:
I know there are better options, but noticed some things that I will definitely take into consideration next hunt.

Good bino's and spotter. Took my Leupold Tactical 10X and Nikon 10-22x50 bino's. Didn't use the Nikons, sucked. Hands down the Leupold Tacts were way better. (loved the Nikons due to 22power mag, but just sucked in big country).
The Nikon Spotter served it's purpose well though.

Good sling and ensure studs are set/tight.

Comfortable pack. I took a Max Condor II. Worked well with hydro bladder.

In this country, sticks, shooting that is, I used http://www.predatorsniperstyx.com/ which I use for calling yotes. Light and easy to strap to pack, no length adjustment, simple.

For you first time hunters, go with the essentials, don't over do it, GO. Not needed.

5 tags taken, 5 filled. Good area to hunt, lots of elk. Few really good shots.
