I don't have a chrono at the monent (that will change soon)
I am curious as to what I might be getting out of my LTR

virgin lapua brass
CCI BR primers
44.5g of Varget
165g gameking BTSP

has between 4 and 500 rounds through it
it will shoot 5 shots I can cover with a dime at 100 yards
getting ready for deer season opening this weekend and will be hitting the outdoor range with 2 and 300 yard targets

been playing with the Hornady ballistics program and think I have a pretty good idea on what I am getting FPS wise

I plugged in 2600, though it may be a little faster... maybe

I live in Austin, 700 feet above sea level
lease is at 200ft above sea level

thanks in advance

With a 22" Rock Creek barrel using a 165 grain bullet and 45 grains of Varget I push right at 2700 FPS at 2300 feet above sea level . I would wager a bet that the max you will see out of yours is 2600 but I may be wrong . A chrony will help you get the dope right to get to 300 yard sand further but actually shooting your rifle at those distances and recording the data is the only way I have found to get exact numbers .

Re: 20" LTR FPS ? (308)

yeah, I am going to the range and will verify on paper
I will NOT take a shot on game that I haven't verified how it shoots on paper at that range

my scope is a Khales CL 3-10 with the multizero reticle system that allows me to have a 100 yard zero with stop, and then 4 additional elevation settings. I have used the data at 2600 FPS and preset it for 2, 3, 4 and 500 yards (in addition to my 100 yeard zero) I will fine tune at the range this evening

Re: 20" LTR FPS ? (308)

I shoot 2-3 times a week at 600yds and last week when I was chronographing my standard loads I use in my Rem and Savage 20 inchers I found that in the cooler temps the velocities were down quite a bit. I am shooting at my place near Victoria.

In 90 degree temps I get 2630-2650 with 45.0grs of Varget behind a 168 SMK. I was getting 2490 and 2540 with the same load when shooting in the low 60's. I am somewhat puzzled with that much loss using Varget.

I thought varget was supposed to be "temp insensitive"???
