Im building a 338 edge, first rifle for 1000 +, my 308 doesnt have what i need, so the new rifle is in the works. i was wandering for the LR guys here, should i go with a 20 moa base. im shooting 30mm tubes, for now out of a super sniper 16x, until i can afford the better optics. Looking for your thoughts and opinions. Thanks

Also, what barrels are most of you shooting? I was going to order one from schnider, i talked to gary over there and the wait isint bad at all. Everyone seems to be wainting for theirs?

There is No Good reason Not to use a 20MOA base, and Most scopes don't have the amount of elevation the SS has... Yes, by all means put one on from the start.... Or you will be when you start stretching that Edge to it's full potential

Depending on scope's total MOA, muzzle velocity,ENV and MET factors, that determines how far and how much come up MOA. If you are talking about 338 LM, then 1500 yards is well within its range.

I have 38 MOA on my 338LM. I can push it out to 2000 yards here in AZ. I have successfully engaged target out to 1575 yards with it.

Bottom line is it's better to have some extra MOAs to play with than not to have it when you need it. What scope are you planning to put on it?

Here is another option. Expensive but works great. I can roll from 100 yards to 1200 yards and back to 100 yards and the point of impact stays the same. I have a MOA chart for each 100 yards. If I'm shooting say 800 yards, I simply roll the indicator to 74 MOA (or whatever the weather calls for) and I'll be very very close. If the next shot is 1400 yards, I roll to 112 MOA (again, whatever is called for by computer estimate or previous range time determining MOA for known ranges) and I'll be really close. I can then roll back to 100 yards and be right on. The elevation turret never moves, only the windage turret.
Works for me... Also, I like Krieger barrels the best.

Can you tell me what caliber? 223? with a 308 118LR at 2600 fps, it only takes 42 MOA to get to 1K....?
