2017 Mason Dixon Sniper Series PA/MD
01/02/2017 Last edited Wednesday at 5:41 AM by FTRinPA

Please note: The registration process has been changed. See below.

Welcome to the 2017 Mason Dixon Sniper Series.

The 2017 Mason Dixon Sniper Series will consist of eight matches and a finale. Three matches will be held at the Mayberry Game Protective Association in Westminster MD, four matches at the New Holland Rifle and Pistol Club in Gap PA, and one match at the University Rifle Club in Reading, PA. The finale will be held at NHRPC.

Each match will present a unique and challenging course of fire including steel, paper, and moving targets, and some physical challenges and various props. Mayberry's range offers targets out to 600 yards, NHRPC to 700 yards, University to 600 yards. All ranges are limited to calibers up to the 300 Magnums and a velocity of 3150 fps.

There will be 3 shooting divisions: Open, DMR, and Production.

-Production-rifle and optics meeting the requirements set forth by the PRS rules (www.precisionrifleseries.com)

-DMR-semi-auto rifle chambered in 223/5.56

-Open-all the rest

Matches are scored on a curved scoring model. Series points will be determined by dividing your score for the match by the match winner's score. We will use each shooter’s 3 best scores to determine eligibility for the finale, with at least one score coming from Mayberry and NHRPC (shooting the match at University is NOT a requirement). The final standings for the series will be the total of your 3 best match scores and the finale score. You must compete in the finale to be eligible for series awards.

To qualify for the finale, a shooter must meet one of the following criteria.

1. Win a match

2. Finish the season in the top 20 of the Open division

3. Finish the season in the top 50% of the DMR or Production divisions

Qualifying matches will be open to 30-40 competitors with a match fee of $30-50 per match. Each match will have its own posting in the Local Match section of Sniper’s Hide. Registration will open at 8pm on the Sunday 4 weeks prior to the match, with a notice being posted 2-3 days earlier. The registration post will give match details and a specific date & time for the match. All matches will be first come, first served.

Series dates:

Apr 2 Mayberry

Apr 30 NHRPC

May 28 NHRPC

Jun 4 Mayberry

Jul 2 NHRPC

Jul 30 University

Aug 6 Mayberry

Aug 27 NHRPC

I appreciate you getting a schedule out so far in advance. I work a weird shift schedule and it's hard to get time off short notice. Hopefully I can get down to a match or two this year.

University is a great venue and you guys will like it. They have a pit a 300Y for some active target stages, a 20' shooting tower, a giant rooftop simulator and loads of other props in the works.

We are also running a DMR/RECCE series between NH and there.

Here's a video of one of those matches from last year to give you a quick look.

I'll also be your match director for the finals. ;-)

Couldn't agree more, University is set up just different enough to allow for unique shooting scenarios. Glad to hear fargo007 is back. Look forward to the reece matches alot. Hope to see you post a match schedule for that series as well.

Yup, we are working on the DMR/RECCE series. I'll open up a thread on it once we have the dates. Expect an April start.

We are now part of the PRS Club series (see link for details). As such, we've decided to make a minor change to the registration guidelines.

Registered on the PRS Club Series link! These will be my first ever matches so I'm pretty excited. Like 98% excited, 2% scared. It could be 98% scared, 2% excited but that's what makes it so intense. Yes, that was an Armageddon reference.

Will just the first two matches count towards the PRS club series, or will others be added later?

what is the benefit of becoming a prs sanctioned shoot? Does it change anything for the club or members that shoot the events?
All i can see is that it would cost $5 per shooter that goes to PRS, what does that gain us as a shooter/match director/club member.

Thanks

It opens up the series points up to a large group of competition. While we will be completing against the usual MDSS group, we can also shoot and compete across the board with a much larger region. I for one am in support.

The additional $5 is an option. If you want your points submitted to the PRS, there is a $5 charge. If not, then you don't pay anything extra.

How does it work with the PRS Club Series if we shoot the MDSS in the DMR or Production division? Are there different divisions within the PRS Club Series? I know PRS has a Production division within the Bolt Series and that there is a PRS Gas Gun Series, but these seems separate from the PRS Club Series.

There are no separate divisions in the Club series. Only "rankings" so each shooter can compete against their peers. There is a better explanation in the new PRS Club rules.

I read the PRS page, but I'm still confused. So are they going to rank someone shooting a 6.5 CM bolt gun against someone shooting a .223 DMR AR-15? I would make more sense if DMR shooters were not counted, right?

OK, I registered in the club section of the PRS site. Will the match registration go through that website now? I really don't care about PRS points or ranking, I just want to be able to shoot these matches.
Thanks.

Gotta figure out how soon it will be to sign up for the one on 4/30...going to be tricky with my wife having our son sometime around then....

After further discussions, the MDSS committee has decided to designate certain matches to be "PRS Club matches". The first of these will be the match on April 30 at NHRPC. In the next few weeks, we will identify 1-2 more matches that will also carry this designation. As soon as these match dates are selected, we will post them here. Thanks for your patience through our growing pains!

Another great match, thanks guys!

As promised, we have designated the following 3 MDSS matches as PRS Club series matches. The scores from these matches will be submitted to the PRS for regional rankings and qualifications. Also, the match fee will be increased $5 for all shooters of these 3 matches.

April 30 @ NHRPC
June 4 @ Mayberry
August 27 @ NHRPC

We have made the decision to move all future posts, updates, details, results ...... to FaceBook. With the growth of the MDSS, it is too much work to post everything on SH, FB, Practiscore, PRS website, ..... We're not telling anyone that they cannot post here, just don't look here for future info for the series. Here are some links if you want to stay in touch with what's going on.

https://practiscore.com/clubs/mason-dixon-sniper-series
You can also search Practiscore for "MDSS"
