Hunting & Fishing 2020 Hunting Thread: Post Your Kills!

Aired this bull out with the ol 7MM LRM from the ridge in the background. Not the biggest bull but it was a hard hunt and a pretty decent wind call and shot for me.

Finally got my archery tag filled tonight, but the best part of the story is my time spent with him two days ago. The morning of the 10th, I watched this guy recklessly chase in (almost got hit by a damn car crossing the road), bed down with, and then get up and breed a doe in the field in front of me at 40 yards. Watched the two of them (or at least the grass patch where they were bedded) for nearly 2.5 hours, and then they both trotted off in the wrong direction. A few calling attempts got his attention, but he followed after his sure thing without a care in the world. His luck changed tonight, and I got him in front of me at 19 yards.

First elk 6x6 bull with a 300 Norma Magnum. Colorado 2nd rifle season - OTC DIY pack in spike camp. Next goal is a mule deer (wish I had a license this year) followed by Caribou.

Green photo is us cooking the inner loins at camp with three of my buddies four hours after shooting him.

My 2020. Had to postpone trips to Scotland for roe deer, Canada for Mountain Goat, Greece for ibex and Macedonia for chamois, but made the best of it with a few trips to Texas for hunts.

2020 Opening day of rifle deer. Heart shot at 74 yards off hand. DT SRS A2 in 6.5 CM, shooting 120 gn ELDMs. While I couldn’t eat the heart from mine, my friend got a buck 10 min later and gave me the heart. Tonight we’re having Venison Heart a la Rinella.

Had the whole pile of pigs come out @ 83 yards from me. It was way past sunset but I could still make out the silhouettes. Started quartering to me from right to left. Put a 168 FGMM through the head/neck area and came out on shoulder of opposite side. DRT!!!

Killed this about 20 or so minutes ago. #8 for the season.
35 yard shot with pictured S&W 1076 10mm and 180gr Extreme plated hp over 10.7gr Blue Dot.
He ran about 35 more yards to the wood line, gave me a nasty look and flopped over.
Perfect broadside, bullet entered about an inch below the muzzle in the pic and stopped under the hide on the opposite side.
Will post pics of recovered bullet post autopsy.

#8! That's crazy! How many tags do you get? 6 in Louisiana and I took a break after I got 3.

They give us residents 5, 3 unrestricted buck & 2 doe, with our liscense.
We have the option to purchase 4 more doe and 2 restricted buck tag at $5 a pop.
As a bonus due to there being an over population of does they've given us two extra doe tags free the past two years.
Lots of folks dont/cant hunt but like deer meat. Once I get my supply I give the rest away to people in my church and at work.

First a correction: the bullet was a Berry's Hybrid, not an Extreme.
Recovered bullet from this morning's kill top left. Grazed a rib on entry and exit that sheared off one petal but other than that it was soft tissue all the way.
Bullet on bottom left is also a 180gr Berry's that I dug out of my 1st kill of the season. This one hit more bone.
Bullet on the right is a 200gr hard cast WFNGC that I'll try next.

Old Jack Russel making sure its dead....

Two bucks taken tonight, 4x4 on the right is mine and 5x5 on the left. Buddy got a doe and that buck few minutes apart, seen a bunch on the quarter he was on. 1 quarter to the north we seen just this one buck before dark.
275yard shot good placement, he walked about 30yards spraying blood out with every breath, second shot just over 300yards hit him in the exact same spot. Two bullets, different distance shots, one entrance and exit. Second shot dropped it like a rock. 7RM with 140gr TTSX did the job well.
First time hunting in a blind this week, and while didn’t see much in that quarter I am satisfied with what I got. Was hoping my 14 year old nephew would take a shot, but he is shy of my rifles and not comfortable over 150yards. At least he got to be there to witness the shots, and all that comes with getting the deer ready to butcher.

Here’s my 2020 WY bull...”Old Stumpy”. Put in about 93 miles total of hiking around, and only spotted a handful of elk the whole season. Got this old bruiser on the 2nd to last day of season out hunting with my Pops. It happened crazy fast! Spotted him crossing a game trail we were following and I took a single standing offhand shot. CA MPR in 6.5 PRC shooting the 147gr ELD-M went right in the boiler room, blew a chunk out of his heart, and zipped right through the opposite side. He took maybe 5 steps and dropped DRT! He’s no monster bull, but he’s gonna provide a lot of good meat for my family!!!👍👍

First year to hunt with the 6.8 spc and suppressor.
100 grain accubond from druid hill armory.
18in ARP and straight threw a Rex silentium MGX. He never heard it coming and was DRT. Funny thing is this deer did a complete backflip when hit. Landed on his back facing the opposite direction. It was kinda weird.

I live at about 500 ft above sea level so i spent all summer into fall preparing so i wouldn't suffer as much this year as last. I had a cow tag last year and took one at 650 yards about 1.5 miles away from the truck, one the third day. Took this bull at 120 yards :). Drought in Northern NM the bull have a lot of broken tines. Still not bad.
