So I have tried to make my 220gr sierra RN's work and it looks like its a moot point. They stabilize but grouping is horrible.

I have a 24" 10 twist barrel. I just bought some 208 AMAX's that are on the way.

Anyone have any experience with using a 308 to make a subsonic load with 208 amax's and trailboss (and even more specifically winchester brass). I know using the stability calculator, they should be marginally stable (1.2) but it seems like everyone says nothing but good things for them and 308 subsonic.

I wouldnt personally with the stability numbers that come out of the calculator. In my 20" 10 twist the number is in the 1.1-1.2 range I believe. Not stable enough for me personally to trust that every one of them will come out stable and not ding my can. Maybe you get 50 that are stable and then one just isnt quite stable.

Maybe with 24" of barrel you will be ok because you are getting almost another half a twist over my 20".

The 180g spire points work well and grouped ok and are cheap, the 220g SMK's worked well and grouped well, but were expensive.

I do, and regardless of what the calculator says mine come out stable in a 10 twist .30-06 case with 14-14.5gr trailboss. Accuracy was acceptable about 1moa at 100 yards. Just check for nice round holes without the can at 50 yards and you'll be good to go... My velocity hovers around 1090-1100fps.
