Re: 208 AMAX in .308? Y or N?
If you plan to push your 308 past 1000 yards, the 208 is tough to beat.
I shoot two loads in my 308. The 155 Scenar at 2900 fps, and the 208 AMax at 2620 fps.
At 1K yds, the 155 needs 28.5 moa, the 208 needs 30.25 moa, elevation correction.
At 1K yds, 10 mph full value windage is 7.25 moa for the 155, and 5.75 moa for the 208.
At 1200 yards both need 40 moa elevation correction.
The 155 retains 1200 fps to about 1275 yds, the 208 retains 1200 fps to about 1500 yds. 1200 yd windage is 9.25/7.25 favoring the 208.
I like RL17 under the 208, and use CCI 200 primers.
The only drawback to the 208 is you will generally have an oal too long for a Rem magazine. It will be a single load, unless you arrange a magazine around 3.00" long.
