Re: 208gr Amax with a 308win

KoolKat,

I'm interested in your results. I will be running a Custom DPMS LR-308 with a 30" barrel for F-class and Palma.

Your choice of powder is unknown to me. There are people on this forum that have gotten 2550fps with 208AMAX+RL-17 at magazine length out of a 20" semi-auto...look for the 208AMAX+RL-17 thread, page 12/13.

Another gentleman got 2615fps out of a 24" savage rifle with 2000MR powder.

Your powder may be too slow for this weight bullet in a 308...nevertheless, i'm still interested in your results.

Hi Flyboy, Adi powders are made in Australia, AR2208 is either similar or actually the same powder as Vargat.
I have heard R-17 can be touchy in higher temps.

My load is a recommended maximum charge for 200gr projectile, however I should be able to push 1-1.5gr(1.5gr more should bring mv upto 2650fps) harder before any real pressure signs develope.

My load development was benchmarked at 2500fps min to gain any advantage over 155 and 168gr loads in the wind, any gain above that is a bonus.

My oal is only 2.9" which is perfect for a savage short action, however may consider having the throat lengthend to free up more powder space.
