So I started working up to the max safe zone in my 26" barrel 300 win mag. Book max is around 72-73. I am now at 77 grns with no pressure signs. 2970 fps at 40f ambient temp. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had luck pushing the 212s hard with H4831sc. Maybe it's the cool temp that is letting me go this high? I'll run on up to 80grns and see what happens. Any experience is valued.

I'm running this powder in my 6.5 Creed, and multiple people i trust have validated that they go much higher than book with no pressure signs. OF COURSE you have to verify this yourself with your rifle. But I am in the same boat being 3 grains higher than max. I think it's the nature of a slower powder.

I ran it up to 80 grns still no problems. 3060 fps. Started compressing over 77grns. I won't go higher than 80 grns because that gets me supersonic to a mile, which is what I wanted. now to find the best node...

I'm loading 212 grain ELDX's in my 1n9' 300WM and the only temperature insensitive powder ( all things being relative ) is H-1000 , save the H4831SC for lighter bullets or smaller caliber , JMHO !

Update. So I ran my loads at 90 degrees and saw no change in velocity and no problems on the brass. Maybe I got a slow batch? Whatever...Just proves that the old 300 win is still very competent.

My 300wm starts to leave ejector marks with 200ELDs just north of 3000fps, about 75g of 4831sc. I am not sure what you have going on. Guys are not getting that much h1000 behind 215s. I got 74g of 4831sc behind and 220 and had to LW collet size after one firing due to a false shoulder forming in front of the belt.

Whats your load? Whats you OAL and jump? How many firings on what brass? What load development method did you use?

H4831 is in the extreme line, I.E the Hodgdon temp insensitive powders.

Coal is 3.515. 2nd firing on brass. Started at 68 grns and went up in .5 grn increments to 73 grns. This got me 2867 out of my 26" barrel. I figured to keep bumping it up to see if I could hit 3000fps. So loaded 73.5 to 76.5 in .5 increments. This got me to 2976 fps. Then loaded from 77 to 80 in .5 increments. 78.5 broke into 3013 fps and it wasn't until I fired 79.5 grns that I was like, ok this is enough...still no visible signs and I have since reloaded that brass and fired it twice more at 78.5 grns. Primer pockets still seat firmly. I seriously think my batch of powder is just really slow. Will have to work up my next lot of powder to be safe.
