.22-250 Ammo Recommendations

Re: .22-250 Ammo Recommendations

I'd look for something loaded with 50- 55 grain bullets if your rifle has a factory barrel. The factory Remingtons have a 1:14 twist which limits you to the lighter bullets. The factory VS that I had shot the 55 V-max extremely well with my handloads.

Re: .22-250 Ammo Recommendations

Back before I hand loaded I used Hornady 55 grain V-Maxs. They shot very well out of a 1-14 twist factory barrel. Never tried anything else because the Hornady was the first stuff I tried and it shot so well that I just stuck with it.

The Winchester 45gr, 40qty pack (white box) that Walmart sells shoots pretty darn good.
I run this on a couple factory shop rigs and then whore up the brass for my handloads.

Runs 4,070fps, and is light on recoil. (out of my 24" 14twist built rifle) I don't have data for the Rem factory rifles such as yours.

I do the same thing. WWB flies great out of my Rem 700 vls

My Rem 700VS shot this better than anything else. Out to about 400 yards it would put bug holes and did an excellent job on groundhogs and other small varmints. I tried Hornady, Winchester, and a few other more expensive ammo but the Winchester white box just shot the best. At 250 yards I could hold a 1/2" group when I did my part. I am hoping it will still like them when I get the rifle back with it's new barrel. I put a little over 4K down the barrel before the accuracy went downhill. The gunsmith said I had approximately 8" of erosion and could not figure out how I was getting any kind of accuracy out of the barrel.
