Anybody else have a 22 Grinch/FatRat etc?

I machined chamber and size die reamers couple months ago.

Chambered 2 barrels for AR, one a 22 " 14 twist and a 27" 7 twist.

Both barrels shoot great!
Have shot 88's/ 2940 @ 900 yd several times with great results.

22" 14 twist has been tested with.....
40 gr @ 4140 fps
50 gr @3890 fps
53 gr@ 3840 fps

Have pushed 88's to 3015 from 27".

All above loads do not show excessive pressure but I shoot loads at less velocity in AR platform.

Norma PPC brass offers 1+ gr of H20 capacity vs
Hornady =36.2-3 gr H20
Norma=37.4-5 gr H20
PPC is also loaded to higher pressure than Grendel so brass may be stronger in base as well ...have not dissected one yet.

I find it easier to produce brass to fireform from PPC brass than Grendel also.
Run .242 mandrel then size back down to form false shoulder.

Will be putting together a bolt gun in near future as well so as not to be limited to AR bolt strength.

Thanks,

The 22" is a(Douglas)Ruger 22 250 take off that I cut back to rechamber , all I had to do with it was a few rnds to smooth up throat and it was shooting better than I had hoped with pretty much anything I threw at it under 55 gr.

Have 150 or so rnds on 22" after re chamber. Barrel didnt have very many rnds in former life as 22 250.

The 27" only has 70 or so on it so not really broke in yet. Is still shooting plenty good especially from AR platform.

I picked up a Ruger AP in 6.5 Grendel, chambered a 27" .224 8 twist for my 22 Grendel IMP

Hopefully this barrel will pick up some speed with more rounds as it is 75 fps slower than 7 twist on AR with same 88 gr loads.

Got 80 Eldm's up to 3150 but node was at 3100 fps.

88's seem to shoot ok from 8 twist, 3 i loaded to test was under 1/2" @ 100 yds.
Imagine B.C will be compromised somewhat, will report findings when I have a chance to shoot 88's at longer range.

Initial test shows I am close to 22 BR performance/case capacity from velocities I am getting.
If any one has a measured 22 BR h20 capacity would be much appreciated.... preferably with a 88 ELDM seated at ?.?? OAL.

Loaded more of the 88's..... no go from 8 twist . Must be on ragged edge of stabilizing, even at 100 yds every once in awhile is throws a flyer that upon inspection of target shows a not perfect round hole.

On the other hand 80 ELDM's shoot good at 3120 fps (same 3100/load above, barrel picked up more) .
Testing couple days ago i shot 3 80's at hole made by 88 flyer @108 yds all 80's went through same hole.
3 80's upper right

Took bolt gun to 1000 yd range yesterday , hits and misses easily spotted .
.5 moa targets were easy enough except at 1000 yds, time we got there wind was 6mph but switching constantly, making it tough to correct for wind.
Just couldnt connect on the 4"x6" plate. Impacts was barely off left or right edge, all in all happy with 22 Grendel IMP.

Old thread I know, but I am interested in your reasoning away from just using straight 22PPC. I have an action with a suitable bolt face and have 50 or so rounds of experience with the 22 Grendel, which I liked, but the 22PPC just seems like the turn-key solution with brass already available.

Case capacity/performance in small frame AR was the original goal.
Other than possable accuracy advantage the PPC case doesn't offer much over a 223/AI IMO.
As said above I built the 2 AR's first, the precision and performance I saw from AR's I couldn't help but think this would make an awesome bolt gun round.
I have 5 barrels chambered with my reamer and they all flat out hammer!

If it wasn't for AR , a 22 BR would provide less case prep and same performance.

pic is first 4 shots on steel at 905 yds from 7 twist bolt gun /88 ELDM @ 3000
