Ok, hear is the deal.

I have a Ruger M77HV which will require a new barrel. This rifle was given to me by my parents back in '79 as a birthday present...therefore selling it and buying a more common platform is not an option.

Given the bolt face diameter and action length would I be better served with choosing another cartridge other than the original 220 Swift?

This rifle is used only for casual target shooting, no hunting and if used for something like a club F match it will only be for my personal fun.

My only requirement is the round choosen must have readily available brass, and I don't want to have to fireform cases. Any suggestions are considered and Greatly appreciated!

What are my options?

Re: 220 Swift rebarrel

.308 Win (qualifies for F T/R) will fit the nominal .473" diameter boltface, as will .22-250, .243, .260 Rem, 6.5 CM, 7-08, .270, .280, .30-'06, and others...

I also was going to suggest this, my dad has the same gun, and I've had oodles of fun knocking over PD's with wicked accuracy. I agree though, if your gonna rebarrel it, make it an 8 twist.
