220gr Velosity?

Re: 220 MatchKings, 300WSM

Shot pointed 210 berger vlds with reloader 17...........2.900 fps, 4" groups @ 1,000 your for 400 rounds, barrel dead at 800! Neck down to 7MM and shoot 1/4 MOA @ 1,000 for 500 rounds like the world Champion British F-Class Open team at Bisley in August. I switched to 300SAUM with 4831SC which is a more efficient case. It shoots one hole at 300 yards. For me the Bergers are more consistant in quality than SMK. Try 4831 SC and keep an eye on your primer pockets. The Norma brass is guns porn , but winchester cases hold more powder and are a harder brass, so the pockets hild up a little better. You will have to swage your pockets closed after 3 firings and annealing of the necks. I plan to neck mine down to 7MM and treat my barrel with melonite nitrate to harden the barrel troat and extend barrel life.Enough rambeling

54,

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on the primer pockets. What brand and length barrel were you using? When the barrel died at 800 rounds, how bad did the accuracy get?

It was a 3 groove Lilja 30" fluted. What I have learned this year after 3,500 rounds in competition 308,300wsm,and 300rsaum is to stay away from double based powder and shoot short fat cartridges. They are more efficient , using less powder, less recoil, same velocity. I have spent a lot of time this year expeimenting and staring down my bore scope.Count your rounds , clean your rifle, and do your load devlopment at 300 yards with a ladder test then shoot for groups loading , off the lands , touching , and jammed. your groups need to be under one inch at 300 yards.I have had some intense mentoring over the last three years starting from . Our 4 man team just broke the existing NRA record at 1,000 yards at the f-class nationals at Butner. Unfortunatly Team Sinclair then beat us by two points! The most important lesson learned was to throw out my chargemaster and buy a lab scale that reads to the hundredth of a grain , or half a kernal of varget. I found out my chargemaster only got 0ne in fifteen rounds correct varying .08 to .30 or out of the x ring at 1,000. Also buy a giraud trimming tool you can trim 500 rounds perfectly in 15 minutes.
Good luck and pray over evry bullet and your rifle will not betray you!

Re: 220 MatchKings, 300WSM

I got to shoot these last night. I was happy with the accuracy at 100 yards. Currently, I don't have access to a chronograph. Anybody want to guess at how fast these were flying? I would appreciate it.

Specs are: 300WSM, 27" 1:10 barrel, 6442 DA, Win brass, 55.3 grains H4831.

Re: 220 MatchKings, 300WSM

Less then 2400fps from what I can tell.

You are WAY below max. You should have another 10 grains =/- in there.

I would start over at 60-61 grains and go up from there.

I'm shooting these at 2750fps out of my 30-06.
