I have an LMT MRP with 16" barrel. I'm looking to get either a 20" 223 or 18" 6.8 to turn this rifle into a DMR-ish type of setup. It sports a PST 2.5-10x32. I probably won't shoot steel past 600 with it. I may also have a chance to do some hog hunting on vacation this summer. I live in Ohio so no deer hunting for me with this one. Mostly just a fun gun but I'd like 1-1.5 moa. Thanks in advance for any enlightenment y'all can provide.

For hogs, 6.8 all the way. A 20" .223 shooting heavy bullets like the 70-77gr bullets will make easier hits at 600yds but they won't be impressive on steel at those ranges. I think a 18" 6.8 will serve you well in both areas, get the right dope and it will be fine. Check out AR15 Performance for barrels and if you reload, Cavity Back Bullets. CBB can set you up with a nice long range bullet.

Is the 16'' barrel chambered in 223 as well?

if so i see no real reason to get a 20inch version what are you going to gain? Only shooting 600 and a 10x optic, not worth it

The 6.8 really appeals to me for something to hunt and shoot critters with, id think a 16 and a suppressor with the 10x would be a fine killing gun. if going 18 or 20 i would do a grendel

A grendel would be ideal. Only problem is the proprietary barrel setup for the MRP. I'd LOVE to know who will do custom barrels. I'd gladly sacrifice my 16" 223 if the smith needed the extension and sleeve. I've got an SAS Arbitor in ATF jail that I'll use on all my long guns.
