223AI long throated

Does anyone have any info on 223AI with max length throat to run in modded AICS mags ?

i want to run either 80.5 or 85.5 Berger’s

already know I’m running 223AI, 26” barrel, Accurate Mags notched in the to take longer throated 223. Still on the fence of throating, and how much.

still contemplating on throating, would like max speed with minimal brass destruction

I fire formed with 88’s and 24 gr of Lever at 2,600 fps in Rem cases.

Switched to 75’s in formed brass with 27.6 gr Lever running 3,080 fps in a 21” Bart.

Throat for 75 eld @ 2.435” - 2.455” and you’ll be golden.

Do you recall how much you extended your throat ?

Chamber it with any freebore between .070 and .110 and go shoot. This range of freebore will work well for the bullets you listed for loading long in an AICS mag.

I’m gonna say it’s closer to .150”

my Wylder reamer is .069” and I needed an extra .090” to get max length with 80.5’s

Both my 223 AI's are short throated unfortunately, but this will change on the next go round. Probably shoot 75/77/80's. Currently one is a 12 twist so I'm limited to about 60ish grain bullets in that one.

Current 223 that’s being rechambered into 223AI is 7 twist, it shoots great now. But I’m almost done testing the Accuracy International 223 conversion so it’s time to play a little now.

My reamer has a .100’ throat and it is perfect for 75 amax. Could be a little longer for 80s the 80 amax and vld both fit in the not he’d mag with this throat.

Have you run the 80.5 or 85.5 bullets ?

I haven’t. I just got some 85.5s in a couple weeks ago and haven’t started working with them yet

I shoot .223 coal 2.5" with unmodified AI mags. This is not Ackly Improved. I throw 80 grain amax at 2850 fps through 1 in 7 barrel. Does great to 1200 meters maybe further but that was all the room I had that day.
