Since there has been alot of mixed results with this cartridge maybe the guys that have it figured out can post what ammo/parts/barrels/uppers/lowers/gas blocks etc were used and share ONLY the top notch stuff. Been reading for 2 weeks every thread and comment on this cartridge and its a lot of info. If you had a bad experience with something please share that on another thread. Thanks for sharing. PLease feel free to post pics.

Based on several people having good results with the Craddock precison upper thats definetely a good part.

My 224V built as follows:

Can you explain the benefits or disadvantages of a +2 gas system over a standard rifle length. I'm looking at either a Wilson Combat 22" 6.5 twist with a rifle length gas or a jp enterprise 22" 7 twist with a rifle length +2 gas system.
 
The super long barrel needs to have an accommodation made for it in the gas system, and the captured spring helps a little with that as well I suppose. AR platform wasn't really made up for two foot plus long barrels! But we make it work.. mine is 24.5 and does well. All the way to 26 is supposed to gain velocity so aim high :)

100% agreement with @GrandpaDeadLegs ... I've found that a longer than standard gas system is nearly a necessity for barrels longer than 20-22" depending on cartridge. The more powder you burn, the higher the pressure; the heavier bullet, generally, the slower the powder you need. Combine those in a long barrel heavy bullet rifle (224v, 6.5CM AR10 etc, for example) and more gas pressure exists longer in the barrel. Enter dwell time tuning....

The rifle length gas system is 12". So a typical 18" barrel has 6" of "dwell time" (not the correct way to quantify it but it doesn't require the math and easier to understand in terms of inches). If you go to a 22" barrel, there is now 10" of "dwell time" which is a ~66% increase in dwell time>. This can be very detrimental to brass and precision because bolt carrier group tries to start unlocking at about the same time as the 18" barrel but bullet still has to travel another 6" before exiting muzzle. This is bad.

If you add length to gas system you can keep the approximate dwell time similar and reduce early unlocking but, longer barrels can be a $@$&+ to tune. One click is too much gas two clicks is too little and then you need to tune buffer and spring.

In a perfect world, we would find the optimal gas system lengths for 20, 22, 24 and 26" barrels to make them easy to tune and more reliable but until the Valkyrie, a 24" barrel 223 was a bit uncommon and more of a novelty. The 224V was designed around a 22-24" barrel, so we may start seeing new gas lengths to maximize precision/reliability.

My build is similar to yours:
22” Craddock Rock Creek 6.7 twist barrel in a VLTOR MUR upper and Mega lower. Yes, a true Frankenstein-gun.

Magpul PRS gen 2 stock (so rifle length buffer), JP SCS and superlative Arms adjustable block. Geissele SSA-E trigger (though should have gone National Match), and deluxe ergo grip

Oh, and Seekins 15” handguard system and BCM BCS with bolt matched to the barrel. Bushy LRHSi 4.5-18 up top.
 
Thankyou to all that shared info. I know theres got to be a few more nice ones out there so lets see em. I ordered some parts and will post up in a week or so when i get it together.

Thats a good question. Im just about to swap out the Seekins SP3R V3 handguard to my 220 Thunderbolt/MEGA setup and install the JP MKIII Rapid Config 17.25" hanguard with their ARCA rail on the 224V. Ill check what springs/weights Im running and let you know. Whatever it is, it shoots like a dream.
 
I'm running standard mass (steel) with green spring I believe but feels slightly off. I think one Tungsten weight (maybe two) with yellow spring will help suppressed hotter loads in the node around 2800 with the 88s; they are a bit harsh in current setup. Plus I only have the +2 system on my 26" which they are now using a +3, which would make dwell tuning easier.

I can say when I played with various load development with 75's, 80's and 88's....the tune is different for them vs 88's. The 88's cycle 100% and the gas block is maybe a 1/4 of the way open. 75's/80's need more weight and less gas. BCG was cycling too fast.
