Hey all. After reading the dedicated .243 loads, it seems that everyone using heavier projectiles uses longer barrels. ie 24" minimum and usually 28"
I am stuck with a 20" youth model R700 for now, and was wondering if anyone had loads for 70-105gr pills. I get a pretty decent load using the last of my 100v/105gr speers, but no chrono, and I'm sure I'm not getting the velocities that are possible (even from a short barrel)

Other powders available are varget, R25, H1000, and 1# R19. I'm hoping to get 4895 or R15, but ya know...

-888-.

H4350 or a faster powder will get good speeds in the 20" barrel with the 75 - 100gr range depending on twist rate and speed you might get the 105 amax to stabilize. I have gotten them to stabilize in some 1-10" twist barrels when other 105 hpbts would not.

i use h-1000, but it's known as a slower burner and it's being used in a 26". may be too slow in 20", or slow enough that you'll loose several hundred FPS.

maybe look for something faster burning like IMR 4198 / IMR 3031 burn rate bracket.

when i went from 22" to 17" in my .308 and 110 vmax, these were the powders i had on hand and i picked up velocity that i lost with the barrel cut. before the barrel was cut i was using 4064 and was great at 22", which was still a little slow for the loss of 5". 4064 is in the "mid" burning rate powder bracket.
