I searched the sight and read numerous posts about .243 load recipes, but could not find anything real specific to my needs.

I have a 22" factory Remington barrel with a 1 in 9.125" twist, .243. I'm looking for load data for the 95 grain VLD that will get decent velocities from the 22" tube. My current load uses 42.5 gr of H4350 with an 87 gr Hornady BTHP at 2940 fps. My ES is horrible with about a 70 fps variance. I may try varget and retumbo, in addition to H4350 with the 95 gr VLD's as that is what I have on hand.

I run 42g. of 4350 out of my 26" tube and get about 3125 with single digit SD and an ES of around 15. I am also running a factory remmy.

You could try H4831SC, have a friend that has had good luck with it, out of a 26".

For a 22 incher, you could try Varget with the 87 grain Hornady. Maybe even try to work up to a faster node with the H4350 and 87 grainer if you haven't hit pressure. Check Hogdon's online guide and see where you stand currently.

For the 95 grainers, try the H4350 and H4831SC. I wouldn't even try Retumbo in a 22". Read flamethrower. I have a feeling the 95s would like H4350 in your barrel.

FWIW, I ran the 95 SMKs in my Rem 700 with 9.125" twist 26" barrel. 43.0 grains of H4831 gave me 2950 fps, ES 13, SD 4...usually 1/2 MOA of less.

Thanks for the info guys! I will try some of these powder next weekend. One last question, how far off the lands are you seating the 95 VLD's? If I go .01 off they wont fit in my mag. If I switch to a dbm they will barely fit.

Re: .243 with 95 grain VLD load data needed

I've got mine loaded .005 jammed, and they "just" fit into my type 1 Alpha mags. If those bergers won't shoot loaded to what ever mag length you need, you could try some Scenars or A-max.
