260 or 260 ai ??

Please give me the pros and cons on these two.

gun is a stevens 200 action was gone over by kevin rayhill barrel will be 24inch 8.5 twist (most likely a rock from the group buy) mags are alpha 2s
I will be reloading bullets 140 a max or 142 smk.
most shooting is up too 800yards with wind!!

260 Rem (non AI) will do you fine. It's not worth the head ache for the extra 75 fps you get.

But the 40 degree shoulder sure is sexy

.260AI is a beautiful round and as chad says some of the headache isn't worth the gain in performance. Fireforming brass is going to slightly reduce barrel life. Though if your wanting semi 6.5x.284 performance out of a short action it's the way to go.

It's really a personal thing i guess. Both work.

I used red dot and cream of wheat to fire form my brass. It was easy. I like the ackley version and would do it again.

Gotta love the "expensive dies". I'm using standard 260 lee collet die set and shooting in the .3s. I bought a redding body die to bump the shoulders for a total of $70 in dies. Fire forming is easy and I have 2950 fps with my 28" barrel shooting 140 Amax.
