260 REM Best load thoughts?

First off I'm a new member an have been shooting an had about every kind of firearm but I'm by no means all knowing an would like some usable feedback. Im currently building a REM 700 SA, Benchmark 24" 8.5 twist w break barrel, AX chassis, jewel trigger, etc. Wanting to know what is a great BC an speedy bullet powder combo that is good for this? I know most are runnin 140 berger, sierra, nosler is this too much to push on a 8.5 twist? Would a 130 be better? Will be shooting 1000 ish and up if possible, ur thoughts...

Need to know chamber dimensions, specifically freebore dimension, to be able to give you a useful answer.
Will you be running from magazine? If yes, what is max OAL allowed by that magazine?

You can run the 140s just fine out of an 8.5 twist.

My 24" 8.5 twist Brux handles 140s just fine.
41.9 gr AA4350 and Nosler 140 Custom Comps works pretty well for me.
Being as H4350 is so tough to find, I tried AA4350 and it works as well as H4350 for me.

I'm not the most experienced guy, but in every one of my rifles I have found that the extra velocity from the lighter bullets does not overcome the lower BC when you are shooting 1000+ yards. But that's just my experience. These days it's more about what bullets you can find in stock.

Flatter trajectory, better for UKD shooting. Point 'em and get the best of both worlds.

42-43.5gr H4350 with a 140gr bullet works for a majority of people, add a grain of powder for 130-class bullets and another grain for 120/123s.

I increasingly believe 43.0gr H4350 is an OCW with 140s, as a LARGE number of people run that charge +/- a couple tenths.

I also believe that 42.0gr, give or take .3gr, has an OCW for the 140s. I also found another node at 40.7 (2700fps) in my rifle that is probably the most accurate load I've ever created for any gun I own. This is using H4350, Lapua Brass, and 139 Scenars. My second node is around 42gr. (2770) 43gr is too hot in my gun, I lose primer pockets within 2 firings.

I won the last match I went to with 139 scenars. I'm a big fan. I'll be swapping to the 140 HPBT from Hornady here soon...we'll see if they shoot as good as the scenars. They have BIG shoes to fill, but I hope they work since they are WAY cheaper.

Stick with H4350 or AA4350, I shot quite a few differnt powders and wasnt happy with the results then I found some AA4350. Get some if you can find it and start there, Im running 130gr bergers and covering 5 shot groups with a dime @ 100.

Another here running H4350 and 139 lapua's. I also found a node @ 42 and 43 grains. but 43 is too hot for mine as well to get good brass life.

Go to a Berger 130 VLD Match and 39.0 grains of IMR 4064 (or Varget)... I think you'll be very pleasantly surprised!

If you're running 140's, cut the charge weight to 38.0 grains.

This is in Remington or Lapua brass.

In my rifle, 140 smk, 45.0 gr H4831sc, .010"off the lands gives me 3/8 moa and 2625 fps in a 22"barrel.
