I have posted several times about my new 260 and not being able to achieve the velocitys that I had expected. 3000fps out of 26" bbl with 123gr bullets. Yesterday I loaded some up with 41.0gr IMR4064 and ShaZam. 3050fps on a 5 shot avg. Didn't measure group but 3/4"ish, was getting dark and I have no doubts a little playing with weight and length can get down to 1/2". Anyone else using 4064 in their 260's?

Always loved 4064 for my 22-250 but haven't tried it in my 260 yet. Thanks for the initial load. May give it a shot.

Re: 260Rem and IMR4064

*When* my new rifle in .260 Rem is finished, I'll see what happens with 4064. However, RL-22 with 140-gr Berger VLDs is working so well that I'll probably start with that powder. If I use a lighter bullet, I might try the RL-19 that's kicking around my reloading room.

I concur. I think you'll find a better load density percentage and accuracy with 43-44gr of H-4350 and the 139-142's. It's just about the perfect propellant for the .260.

"The" powder for the .260 is H4350 don't waste time money etc with anything else, it has been proven over and over again.
Stick with H4350 and you'll get the best out of the .260 period.
cheers.

Re: 260Rem and IMR4064

I have used IMR 4064 with 129 SST & 95 VMax hornady bullets. I've had excellent results. I've got half inch groups and less at 100 yards with my factory Remington 700 Mountain rifle with a 22 inch skinny Barrel and factory unbedded stock. However my GAP 260 26" with 139-142 class bullets I've only used H4350 this combo is supper accurate 43.3 grains and 142 smk's in Remington brass with Winchester primers, I can clean the 600 yard NRA target with high x count.. I bet you could good results with 4064 and 123's. Let me know if it works I don't get much time for load testing these days.

Re: 260Rem and IMR4064

Just curious what is considered pushing your brass too much. I'm around 2700 with some 139's, I would like more, but not if it's going to destroy my brass in a couple of firings. Sorry to hijack, I was just curious.

Yep, another vote for 123 gr SMK w/ IMR-4064

I rebarrelled my Savage Model 11 in .260 because of all the good things I read about the 6.5mm projectiles. Sierra has a fairly new offering in this diameter - a 123 gr Matchking. I didn't see any recipes in the Sierra manual so I called Sierra to chat. The bullet is a new design that came out about two years ago, long after the last edition of the reloading manual was published. The technician I spoke to said the bullet has a smaller bearing surface than its earlier 120 gr cousins, and therefore might be faster exiting the muzzle. The BC is a whopping .508 according to Brian Litz. Sierra suggested I use the 120 gr SMK recipes as a place to start. I started my load development with the mildest charge for 2600 fps (out of a 24 inch barrel). Then I worked up to 2700 and 2800 fps. The best grouping was achieved at 2700 fps with 35.7 gr of IMR-4064. I have now cooked up three more loads using H-414 which I have yet to try out. Is anyone else using these projectiles (#1727)? Are you converging on a favorite recipe?

Thanks for posting that up! We need a thread for people to post up 6.5mm loads with other powders than, H4350 and the other standbys... I've been looking into H100v and CFE 223 myself...
