Never thought I would own a gun that would shoot this good 260 rem 26in krieger barrel. Shot her for the first time today playing around with different loads and shot a 0.629 4 shot group at 300y!!!!! I'll have to post some pics kinda hard to believe it!

Wow, awesome shooting. Post some close ups of the rifle and specs on it! One of these days when I improve my skills and mature from my 308 I will invest in a 260.

Love my DTA 26" 260. Use 140gr Berger BT with H4831 45.7gr in Lapua brass. Ogive 2.275 with OAL 2.85. 2710 fps.

100 yards wind 15-20 mph left to right. First shot right cold bore. Next five shots 0.16 MOA. Best group I have ever had!

Love the round!

39.5g imr 4350, virgin lapua brass, federal 210 primers, lapua 123 scenars, loaded at 2.860 coal no pressure signs

I'm running 43.2 gr of H4350, Win brass, CCI Large primers, and the 123 scenars.

My first one was a re-barreled 308, 700p I replaced the original trigger to a Timeny Trigger at about two pounds. The replacement barrel was an Obermeyer barrel at 26". Marc at Spartan arms replaced that one.

My second one was built by Bugholes on a Stiller action with an Obermeyer barrel at 26" and a CG Extreme two stage trigger.

Both rifles shoot the same load almost perfectly.

Question? Is 260 a SA or LA? And also would I be able to just switch barrels on a Remington SA to accommodate the 260 caliber. Please don't flame me for asking?

Awesome! H4831 works really well, and provides some low ES numbers. I'm just fine tuning my 140 Hybrids, and is working great!

Interest in the .260 Rem got started here right around 2001. I did the math comparing ballistics between the .308 and the .260, and the .260 became very attractive. Several of us built a few on the Savage 10FP actions and took them out to Whittington Center in 2002 to try at 1Ky and 1Km. They performed very well. I wish I'd had some experience beyond 300yd before then, but my best 1Ky score, last day of a week, was a 193(197?)/200, and I was very happy with it.

Soon after, the 6.5-284 became popular on the LR Comp lines, and made the .260 semi-obsolescent as a top performing LR Comp chambering. But it also ate up barrels a lot faster.

This presented a lot of folks with a quandary. Since I didn't have the resources to rebarrel once a year, I stayed with the .260, and had (have) to settle for competing mainly against myself.

I got a L-W 28" installation ready barrel, and that closed the gap a bit.

Soon after, we lost our 1000yd venue, and I wasn't shooting LR anymore. In the aftermath, the .260 languished, and I rebarreled the rifle in .30BR. I have a new Savage Predator Hunter .260 to carry on with .260, but it's only been shot a few times, and still really needs a load development project. Maybe I'll replace the barrel with the L-W I took off the original .260, since I already have good loads for that.

So, remember; things change.

Typically it's a short action and yes, you could just change out your barrel from your .308. It's a great way to start.

So correct me if im wrong but the .260 is a 6.5mm? So if im looking for a barrel would I get a .260 or 6.5mm. This is new to me so dont go too harsh on me.

I am a 700 lover, but Rem dropped the ball on that cartridge. Instead of focusing on RUM's and XMK triggers, if they would just offer a heavy barreled 260 with an 8-8.5tw, and put a decent stock on it they would sale like hotcakes. Of course if I were with Rem I'd try to strike a deal with Timney and forget about making my own triggers, and run with it. I'm sure nobody here would complain about paying $100 more for a 700 with a Timney already in it.

I'm shooting 123's Scenars in my 6.5x55. I tried 140's but the velocity fell off a lot. I think the 140's are better in the bigger 6.5's.

I have had good luck with the 142 SMK at 2750 fps. I am going to take a look at the Berger 130 VLD. I loaded up a three of them .015 off lands to test for pressure. H-4350. 42, 42.5, and 43 and those three grouped at under 1/2 MOA. Next I am going to do a ladder test. If I can push them fast and accurate it might be the way for me to go.
