Not really meant to be a "what cartridge should I build" thread, it just finally strikes me that I need one, why the f#$% don't I have one. A Tikka, because it's already a LA and will surely be a sweet light hunting rifle for deer and elk. Only problem is the 1:10" twist, but it looks like a few good 120-130 gr hunting bullets with G1 BCs > 0.5 are around, I wasn't paying attention. Cutting edge?

Good point. That's why I have a T3 Lite. In .270 Win. I've made a few tweaks (B&C stock, Yo Dave trigger spring, Glades Armory bolt handle, Tikka Performance rail and bottom metal) and had the barrel threaded, but the overall package is a REALLY enjoyable hunting rifle.

I just loaded up some 145 ELD-Xs, but I haven't had a chance to head to the range with them yet. I'm really hoping that I can find a load that both the gun and the projectile like...

Have a M70 Featherweight. Got it around the time when Olin Winchester transitioned to US Repeating Arms. I love it. It's topped with a Leupold Vari-X III 2.5-8. It replaced my '65 vintage M700 7mm mag with a Lyman All American 4x which I still have. The .270 is just as lethal and much easier to lug around in the woods. All I did to it was to lighten up the trigger a bit. I had an uncle who was a battle of the bulge vet and he had one built on a Mauser action from a rifle that he brought back from the war. He was kind of a father figure to me and I had 270 stuck in my head from the mid fifties to when I bought the M70.

Forgot to mention, while I was in the service I bought a Plain Jane M70 ,270 from the Fleet Exchange too. I sold it though so I could pay for a careless driving ticket I got in St Paul, MN while drag racing down I-94 while they were having race riots there. Didn't realize it and there were cops all over the place. LOL

And one more time. I've always used Federal Premium 130gr Sierra Game King loads in the 270 and 140 gr Sierra Game King handloads in the 7mm. Both are instantly lethal.

I had an old Rem 700 ADL .270 w/ Redfield scope that I used to bet friends to shoot 3 rounds @ 100 yds and cover the group with a quarter - and shoot a gallon milk jug at 500 yds. Never lost a bet.
